Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
Every single time I forced myself to listen to this audiobook, I just needed up bored and zoned out. Some of the H.H. Holmes stuff was interesting, but for the most part this was a snooze fest for me.

This book feels like a warm, winter hug. Unfortunately though, it felt a bit too cheesy to be my exact taste. The conflict in the book came out of nowhere and was so pointless. Also, there were a bit too many detailed descriptions that I found myself rushing through because the atmosphere had already been perfectly set, and they felt duplicitous. Overall, it was enjoyable, just not my favorite.

A decent read for anyone who wants to learn about the internal dialogue of someone with an eating disorder. Overall, the book is captivating enough that you want to continue, but for me, it was not profound.

I really love the concept of this book. Family lore and formation under intense circumstances is right up my alley. What stopped me from wanting to move further with this book was how complicated and flowery the language was. I’ve never been one for stories told in that way and always struggle to enjoy them to the extent I know I would if it was told in a different way.

I was honestly lost a majority of the time. I had to reread the book description multiple times to remind myself what exactly was going on. Toward the middle of the book, it became more clear and I started enjoying myself more. Luckily I listened to this on audio so I didn’t give up around the 25% mark like I normally would if I was so lost.
