Short story collections tend to be middle of the road for me as I tend to like some stories, and other stories not so much. That is the case with this collection as well. It was really nice to read stories set in Trinidad and Tobago, but not all of them connected with me.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 13%.
Was listening to this on audio and even that didn’t keep me engaged. Just not the story for me I guess. I simply never wanted to return to it, so I will not.

Very short and sweet. Interesting concept since I tend to love stories about relationships between moms and daughters. I might have to use the pointing thing if I have kids haha

Not my cup of tea. The smut was average but had cliches that just aren’t for me.

I would not wish the experiences shown in this book on anyone. That is exactly why it’s so important to read about them. With reading comes an understanding of what others may being going through or experiencing. When told in the right ways, stories like this encourage empathy, healthy coping mechanisms, and positive communication skills. This story in particular upset me, but that shows it was well-done. The art and the writing is a solid show of talent!

Perfectly average. I personally think it was much too long. There were multiple twists, which I felt dwindled the meaningfulness of each one. Each twist was well-executed which was why it ended up being a bit annoying every time another one came. Around the 50% mark, I would have been happy if it ended.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 31%.
It took me a second to officially decide to stop reading this, but my library loan expiring pushed me to see that I was not interested in picking it up again. Particularly, what prevented me from staying interested in this book was the fact that the plot was so heavily centered around religion. I know plenty of people who would be interested in that but it’s just not something I personally want to spend my time reading.

I absolutely blew through this on audio. I grabbed the book at a little free library and wow, I am glad I did. This was pretty hard to listen to, but I really loved the story and the characters. What an interesting a reflective look on the way two people’s paths can cross at the wrong time, making a small thing right.

Picked up this book in the free section of my library as I haven’t touched a middle-grade in awhile. I opted for listening on Libby because it was a quick read. Overall, it’s a cute concept but I wasn’t very impressed. I wasn’t expecting anything too mind blowing, but I walked away without knowing what the message of this book was. I think some people would enjoy it more than I did, so off to a little library it goes.

This book should be read by everyone who can stomach the triggers. Getting perspectives from Native Americans who don’t live on reservations is SO important when society acts like they don’t exist. The plot is heartbreaking, but highlights the centuries-old story of how non-natives continue to exploit native land, money, and resources.
