Alan Moore. Batman. The Joker. One of DC's best tales EVER!

It begun with Alan Moore. Then Neil Gaiman took it. How AWESOME is that?? Gaiman explores wonderfully the world Moore created, using his personal touch, recollecting and expanding the awesome vistas of the Parousia of Miracleman. It is so sad that Gaiman never finished it (and who knows if he will), but the sense of suspense add to the mystic appeal of the series.

A very well paced fantasy story, full of amazing and intriguing characters (specially the Red Fox) and well crafted institutions and organizations. The author uses his professional and academic knowledge of politics and diplomacy to create a vibrant renaissance-like setting, where everything is moving and changing. The fantastic elements are not so apparent in the beginning, but they come in full force and with unexpected turns later in the book, building tension. In general, this is a refreshing take on fantasy, a very promising debut for McKinley.
Batman: Year One by Frank Miller

Frank Miller's take on the Dark Knight consolidated a lot of its mythos into a comprehensive, grim, ultrarealistic hero, which Cristopher Nolan masterfully adapted to the big screen. This book is a must for the writer who wants to learn how to do a "precuel", and for any reader who wants to look at the most serious aspects of comics.

One of the most amazing short story anthology I've ever read, each tale even more fantastic and full of wondrous images. I never thought it was possible to create such diverse array of tales in one so-novel genre. A fantastic inspiration!

This is comic book art at its best. Silver age superheroics meets drama, Borges, Lewis Carrol, Alchemy, philosophy and logic in this outstanding run for the original misfit weird group of super heroes (the X-men seem... Just a copy, look for the similitudes). Highly recommended, specially for those who nowadays think that Marvel have it all... ;)
Inferno by Dan Brown

Dan Brown does his homework. He does a lot of research on the locations, artwork, quotes, brands and history. He is a master of pacing. His style is engaging. I acknowledge that. But his characters are devoid of soul, clichés of pretentious perfection, his descriptions are taken from a Michelin guide, his twists feel completely forced, and some situations are resolved deus ex machina. An "airport book".

This was an absolute surprise. Raised as a soldier, proud lesbian, fights magical and mythical foes with just her wits, has very complex family issues, strong character... This is one of the best "spin-offs" from a well stablished character like Batman.

The story gets more convoluted, intrincated, not easy to follow, but nonetheless compelling and interesting. The stakes are raised higher with her personal life and her superhero activity, reminding me of what was good about Spiderman comics in the 70's. The drawing is gorgeous too! A nice surprise in comics.

The end of the Medusa arc, it beings in Wonder Woman as the only capable of dealing with greek mythic monsters, which is delightful seeing what Marvel does with Thor, although her presence is somewhat undermanaged. The idea of Medusa doing a rite in which she sacrifices children to bring her mother Maro (a Lovecraftian monster by the looks) is the perfect ending for an arc based on Family as a guiding concept. The art is gorgeous as well.
