Cold as Hell by Kelley Armstrong

Another nail-biting installment in this thrillingly fantastic series.

Casey is adaptable, smart, and incredibly capable, as usual. I love that she and Eric always present such a united front and that they are each other's safe haven, even though they may not see eye-to-eye all the time. They work exceptionally well together, and I also love the rhythm that they've found with the other staff at Haven's Rock.

The vivid descriptions of the snow and weather conditions were just as chilling as the crimes committed. This time the villain was even more disturbing, and the reveal of their identity added a rich layer and interesting twist to this already gripping mystery. And let's not forget the stressful moments surrounding Casey's pregnancy.

This book was almost impossible to put down and will have you riding high on tense emotions. I can highly recommend this entire series and the preceding Rockton series if you like suspense with some romance thrown in. Each book can be read on its own, but I think there's more value in reading them in order.

An outlandish set of circumstances brought Theo and Bianca together and proximity and the threat of danger took care of the rest of their feeble resistance.

I had a lot of thoughts running through my brain after reading the first few pages. What on earth was happening? How big was this woman's dowry? What was wrong with her sister? Well, never fear, all these questions were answered, eventually. It was a lot of fun piecing together the puzzle that was Bianca and her enormous fortune.

It was easy to peg Bianca as a pushover initially, but she certainly stood her ground when dealing with Theo. I enjoyed the humorous writing style, especially Theo's clever quips and inner thoughts and Bianca's ineffectual efforts at flirting. They had great chemistry and Theo turned out to be a true hero.

I loved everything about this story and can highly recommend it if you like a steamy historical romance novella. This book is part of The Lyon's Den Connected World, but each book stands perfectly well on its own.

Levi and Jillian are all grown up, with eye-opening life experiences behind them, and can finally get the second they both deserve in this sweet, heartwarming romance.

These two had wonderful chemistry between them. They started something pretty early on, and even though the attraction burned hot, they took their time to finally act on it. Their intimate scenes were fade-to-black, but very intense, nonetheless.

There were some slow-moving parts and the bits with her ex felt like unnecessary filler. It was clear that Jillian had plenty to deal with after her disastrous marriage, without bringing him into the picture. Levi had his own issues, but he was wholly committed to making the relationship with Jillian work. Ollie and Levi were super cute together.

The ending was pretty corny, but perfect for closing the loop of Levi and Jillian that started when they were kids. This book is part of a series but stands well on its own. I didn't read the first one. I can recommend it if you like a charming closed-door romance.

Everly and Beckett get a well-deserved second chance amidst serious secrets and light-hearted fun.

Based on events later in the book, I didn't really understand Beckett's initial animosity towards Everly. That threw me off somewhat, and I kept waiting for that bitterness to pop up again, but it never did. If anyone had reason to feel bitter, it would be Everly.

Other than that, I enjoyed the banter between Beckett and Everly and their chemistry. Oh, and Everly's confusion about what was happening. Well, it's fair to say I was also a bit confused at the start. The gifts and the "roses are red…" notes had me smiling.

This novella packed in Everly's humiliation in high school, Beckett's secret, and their reunion without it feeling rushed or incomplete. And let's not forget the ghost story. I can highly recommend this if you like a steamy second-chance romance.

An unconventional governess and a control-freak gambling hell owner clash spectacularly in this race against time to find the mastermind of a reprehensible scheme.

Jasper was discombobulated by Frankie right from the start and it was fun seeing his carefully constructed world unravel in her presence. They warily danced around each other and their mutual attraction and this led to very heated looks and pointed banter.

Cecilia was precocious and surprisingly manipulative and made for an unpredictable but amusing character. I loved the interactions between her and Frankie.

This very clever but convoluted plot flowed really well at a steady pace and I was very invested in every step. I can highly recommend this book if you like an action-packed, steamy historical romance. Each book in this series stands well on its own.

Rafferty and Tempe were a wonderful couple and I loved to see their fake relationship turn into a real one. The stalking issue with Tansy was quite tense, but I felt like her revenge towards the end was a bit underwhelming.

There is so much mystery surrounding this little town in Alaska and I definitely want to learn more about Brock's brothers. I liked Olivia. She had this quiet, gentle stubbornness that meant she didn't give up, but also people were drawn to her and wanted to help her out. Even Brock, with his determination to run her out of town, didn't really stand a chance against her charm. Brock was gruff and grumpy, but dedicated to the town and its people. They were adorable together. A fairly fast pace took us through plenty of twists and turns and interesting characters to a satisfactory ending.

There is no "saying goodbye" to a passion that has been building for ages.

This novella was one secret juicy love affair for the most part. Knox's yearning for Clarissa was this living thing that kept building up until he couldn't deny it anymore, especially when it seemed like she was experiencing the same feelings. The chemistry was off the charts and palpable. It was almost a relief when they finally made it to a bedroom, but that was most definitely not the end of the craving for each other.

I enjoyed their every moment together, it was just too short. Between Knox's proposal and the epilogue, there were so many things that would've been lovely to experience with them, as well as more details surrounding Clarissa's father.

There are three novellas that chronicle the lives of the Troublesome Trio, and each one stands well on its own. I can highly recommend this if you like a steamy historical romance.
