this was one of the CUTEST romance books i’ve read, and it’s a hockey romance? swoon.
charlie was so, so protective over her kiddos that the fierce way she loved and cared for them melted my heart. dealing with her unserious and emotionally abusive ex is a feat all on it’s own, especially with two young kids. although she’s strong, she isn’t the best at asking for help, which is totally understandable. when jake comes in and stands his ground saying that he’s on her side and not going anywhere no matter what, she has no choice but to accept his help (help that she secretly wanted to ask for). charlie has become one of my favourite book characters, and i’m so very glad i got the opportunity to meet her!
jake was everything charlie needed, and charlie and her kids were everything jake needed. they all complemented each other so well, and jake didn’t miss a beat when interacting with meadow and noah in the slightest. his insistence on being there for them and getting to know them was quite literally unconditional. not to mention how protective he became over them (and charlie) in such a short time. but honestly, i’d fall head over heels for those kids too, especially meadow (my fav!). his ability to lift charlie up and help her grow into her new life was everything to me, and she helped him be the best version of himself even when she didn’t know it. oh, and the stars that jake drew in his notebook? i. was. done. for.
i absolutely adored their little inside jokes and nicknames, and the brownie thing??? so freaking CUTE! i can’t wait to read more of hailey’s work soon!

this was so freaking cute! i think baseball romances are growing on me now, and i loved every second of this one.
callie was such a relatable character, which made this a really good read for me! i loved how she wasn’t put off by trying new things, and didn’t shy away from the ridiculously last minute interview her brother set up for her. she wasn’t afraid to say what was on her mind and ask questions where questions arose. she had such a bright personality that worked with will’s and made her so loveable to everyone else. with her parents, i like that it was more difficult for her to let go but she finally did what was best for her and cut them off instead of them cutting her off.
will’s internal fight with his feelings was equal parts funny and adorable, but made me want to shake him and yell that he was actually in love with callie, he just didn’t outwardly say those words. his protectiveness over her even when they weren’t together was so sweet. i mean, hello? getting the recipe for a tea for callie to try and claiming the place was open on christmas/her birthday because she liked it? swoon. he did so many little things for her even when he couldn’t pinpoint his feelings or see that she felt the same way for him, and i giggled like an idiot every time.
and the side characters? i need each and every one of them to either have their own book or continue to pop up in future books. miles was such a sweetheart and the fact that he wanted to marry callie (he’s 5, btw) melted my heart. will’s sisters were hilarious and i hope they get the attention they deserve because i absolutely loved them!

the single dad x nanny trope will never not get me, i swear.
sabrina was such a fun character, and the way she cared for maddie immediately made my heart melt. she had dreams of becoming a teacher, and was able to teach maddie on the road while traveling for noah’s tennis games. i appreciate that she didn’t put her life on hold just because she fell for noah, and actually found that what she thought she wanted could be done in a different way. honestly, i think i would’ve been heartbroken if they did a long distance thing because all three of them would be unhappy in the end.
noah appeared grumpy and standoffish on the outside, but was a total teddy bear when it came to his daughter. she was the most important thing to him until sabrina came into the picture, and now they both hold that title. it’s obvious fron the way that he spoiled sabrina that one of his love languages is gift giving, even though sabrina insisted that she didn’t need material things (if he wanted to, he would).
maddie was so cute and sweet! she was so funny and way too smart for her own good, especially during a game of truth or dare when she played matchmaker for noah and sabrina.
this was such a fun read! thank you to valentine pr and the author for the e-arc! 💝

this book was so freaking perfect.
halle and henry are one of my new favourite book couples, i just could not get enough of them.
halle has the unfortunate responsibility of being the eldest daughter, which i feel so hard. she struggled with putting herself first and saying no to people, and she was always the person people would go to when they needed help, but she never received that same help. saying “no” is such a hard thing to do, especially when you feel responsible for other people, and i love that henry taught her that it’s okay to say no and be honest about whether she wants to do something or not. just because someone wants something, doesn’t mean she has to follow through.
henry was such an angel, and the way he showed his love and appreciation for halle made my heart melt. i could feel his struggle with overstimulation and sensory issues through the pages, and i feel for him in every way possible. he never imagined loving someone but everything he did for halle even before he realised he loved her, he was doing those things because he loved her. be serious, drawing on her and falling in love with her cat? halle would have to be blind to not fall in love with him.
as with the last two books, i still really appreciate how the side characters/friend group felt like main characters and nobody was ignored or left out!
i just finished this book but i miss henry and halle already </3

i urge anyone who is reading my review to pick this up on release day. i beg.
i don’t even know where to start with lincoln and brooke, they were simply perfect. both a little guarded and apprehensive about opening up to other people, which makes them perfect for opening up to each other.
brooke was such a strong fmc, and even though she felt undeserving of good things sometimes, she still knew what she did and didn’t deserve. she was never one to take care of people, prioritizing herself as of late, but when lincoln comes into her life, she finds herself taking care of him in the exact way he needed. brooke is such a caring and understanding person, unconditionally really, and the way she shows her love to lincoln is palpable.
lincoln had been suffering in silence for what felt like forever until brooke came into the picture. he was apprehensive, rightfully, at first, but soon came to let her in and let her take care of him after going so long taking care of other people. lincoln is so much stronger than he realizes, with balancing family, his daughter, and a business all at once, yet didn’t feel deserving of rest or prioritizing himself. brooke slowly helped him realize that it’s okay to put himself first, and that it’s okay to not be okay all the time, and watching their journey of opening up to one another made my heart so full.
something worth noting about lincoln is that he bought brooke the ingredients and supplies to make her favourite drink at his house “because it’s what she likes” and wanted it to be accessible to her regardless of whose house she was staying at that day (i almost cried, i can’t lie).

the quote above is genuinely the only time i laughed during this book. granted, i know it’s not a rom-com or a comedy, but still.
this book was entirely too fast-paced for the overall plot. i don’t think i’ve said this in a review before, but this book should have been much longer. the whole fbi, murder mystery, cracking a case, etc plot cannot (in my opinion) be shoved into a book that’s less than 130 pages.
as for the characters, i have no idea what their backgrounds are. there is very little character development, and i honestly found the fmc very immature and annoying. more, all we really know about the mmc is that he’s heavily tattooed, “knows how to cook”, and does the bare minimum for his love interest.
also, apparently the contents of this book happened in the span of 3.5 weeks (as per a quote from the book) yet the readers have no indication of the passing of time or when the story is taking place at any given point.
all that being said, this felt very wattpad-y and rushed. if there was more time taken to really flesh out the story and draw it out like i think it should have been, it would read better and make much more sense. given that i’ve received the arc for book 2 and did not enjoy this book, i am very nervous.

may and raf were so freaking cute together! their banter and push-and-pull relationship prior to finally getting together kept me on my toes and i was living for it.
i adored may’s cottage, and the way it was described was perfect, so much so that i could see it in my head and now i want to live there. her obsession with mugs was adorable and so meaningful, especially when raf ended up getting her one for his own house just for her. i totally understood her apprehension when it came to relationships, specifically with men, and i didn’t blame her for being closed off at all. after what she’d been through, she absolutely deserved raf and his big heart.
raf felt like such a golden retriever to me, even when he was trying his hardest to hate may (he couldn’t). i love a mmc that’s tortured by one woman he can’t get out of his head. his willingness to be patient and wait for the woman he wanted was everything that may deserved, and she was everything that he deserved. when it came to his restaurant, he just needed a little push from someone that meant something to him, even if he didn’t realise that person was may at first, she truly brought out the best in him.
