Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

this was difficult to rate as i have never been so emotionally affected by a novel. I had to stop and do some mindfulness to calm down as i felt sick with anxiety. but at the same time i’ve never been so invested and felt so many emotions from writing before. I needed to go to bed and relieve myself from the stress of this story however i couldn’t put it down. This was so well done, with so many different emotional twists. It was really insightful into how harmful cancel culture can be. Also i would definitely read Burnt Orchid
i really didn’t enjoy this, too many characters, unlikable protagonist, the most false chemistry between the love interests, cringe texting/dialogue, suspense wasn’t built and things were rushed. i think there was potential with this premise but it missed the mark. and the cliffhanger meant i didn’t even get any answers so not sure it was worth finishing.
JM is such a great storyteller. Although this was slow at times, I really enjoyed the character development, and some of the side characters stood out a lot. The ending was satisfying with loose ends all being tied together nicely.

this book was such a journey! i had so many feelings, mainly heartbreak for this poor little girl. The characters were all so unique and added to the story. The switching between past and present was timed very well, really adding to the dramatic effect and eliciting some of the big emotions attached to this story.
i liked the way this was written, it was twisty and i didn’t predict anything. author did a good job at conveying fear and stress and disgust. the scenery and setting was great and immersive. a great holiday thriller.
2.5 star? maybe? this is hard to rate because i liked the start, and i liked the end, but the middle 50% was SOOOO tedious and boring. 35-40minute chapters are not for me. Also the romance building was poorly executed; every conversation consisted of her asking questions and him telling her to be quiet/not now. I didn’t see/feel the chemistry between these two. At times it was hard to envision but it was still so much more engaging than the middle section of the book. The ending was a bit funny - not convinced i’ll read the second one when it’s out, to be decided.
i LOVED this. the atmosphere was so amazingly depicted, i had such a clear mental picture of the books aesthetic the whole time. the whole novel was spooky and suspenseful; keeping me on my toes. the plot twist was so unexpected and the ending tied together so well it was expertly done.
