The book was so damn fun. And swoony in some parts. And the found family, well that really did it for me. I could have kept reading this book for days which would have turned into months then years until it was scrolling through my mind for the rest of my life. And even then I would have died happy.

The biggest compliment I can think to give this book is that I read it before bed last night in hopes that I would dream myself into this story and universe (galaxies?).

If you enjoy witty banter, enemies to lovers, rooting for an underdog, and DUH found family, then you need to read this book.

This was simultaneously enjoyable and difficult to get through. I loved Piper's POV, she is a very loveable, heartfelt character. Yet I found the relationship dynamic dislikable (this is totally on me, just not my thing) and some of the sexual encounters were awkward as hell (a "this-ass man"? C'mon Brendan, we're better than that).

However, I can absolutely see how this would be someone else's cup of tea and I love it for them. If hearing a man say "I'm taking you shopping" turns you on, then you’ll be into this. It's just not for me, thx.

The first half was so good. The FMC had a unique yet consistent voice and I was really excited to go on this journey with her. And the MMC had so much steamy promise.

But the second half, ugh! It really fell apart for me. Everything was too rapid fire and then tied up too neatly at the end. Boo, boring, eye roll.

Jude. Oh Jude, you glorious violent creature. How I love you, and your swordplay and joy taken in cutting things in to pieces.

Positives: this book was some damn good YA. YA has a reputation for glossing over things too dark or violent or sexual. And while this book has absolutely no spice, it sure is still violent and dark and twisted and, damn, did I enjoy it.

Negatives: there is, like, no plot. The world building is *chef's kiss*, but this entire book was essentially the world's longest prologue.

I'm honestly not sure what to think about this one. It was enjoyable and imaginative and generally well written. And the spooky atmosphere had me scared that something would reach out from under the bed to grab my ankles during a late-night bathroom run. As a thirty year old adult, I haven't felt that in a while so it was pretty fun.

But I don't buy into the romance - they weren't around each other enough to make it even remotely believable. Also, the ending felt really unresolved. No spoilers, so I'll leave it at that.

Overall, it was a fun read that I don't regret and would recommend to those who are interested in a vibe like The Village.
