The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
4.0
Took a while to get into the story, mostly because of the disorienting introduction. While the book is sometimes unnecessary slow and repetitive (way too many chapters start with accounts of dreams/nightmares), I did like the overal story. The world building is excellent. I just feel that the story would have benefited from tighter editing to improve the overal pace. I'm glad most of the characters that are introduced early in the story stay important further down the road. That can't be said from some minor characters that are introduced with lots of detail, but quickly disappear again and never return. Looking forward to the rest of the story in the sequels.
Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher
3.0
First book by Carrie Fisher that I read. Liked the humor and her openness about her mental health issues. Disliked the vulgarity and crassness of some of the anecdotes.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
3.0
Enjoyable read, especially the background stories of Amy's work on Parks & Recreation. The last few chapters were less interesting.
Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-earth by Ian Nathan
5.0
Fantastic book, great insight into Peter Jackson's career and into the production of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit trilogies. If you read everything that could have gone wrong or that actually went wrong during pre-production, filming and post production of the Middle-earth movies, it is a miracle that the end result was so good!
Legend by Marie Lu
4.0
Entertaining and quick read, similar to other YA series like The Hunger Games and Divergent. A bit predictable at times and not very deep. The alternating perspective from the two main protagonists in subsequent chapters works well.
Prodigy by Marie Lu
4.0
Good sequel in the same vein as the first book. Interesting twist towards the end!
