I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my review.

I thought that Heir of Illaria was a wonderful book.

A story is woven about a young woman who goes from insignificant country life to finding out she is a princess who was hidden away from the evil king who took over her father’s kingdom. The pace is wonderful to keep the book moving as she joins a band of rebels and struggles with who to trust as she trains to control her newly discovered magic. I also thought the characters were developed wonderfully and I found them very believable and endearing.

The book was very engaging and I was swept away into the kingdom of Illaria as the characters plotted against the Necromancer King. I adore books with magic users so it was fun for me to read the parts about how their magic works and what she can do with hers.

This book is part of a series that is still being written, and I am so excited for the next book!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was thrilled to be able to enter the world of Illaria again to see how Etta and her friends were faring in their war against the king. The theme of not knowing whom to trust endured through this second book of the series and gave an air of tension to every encounter with a new character.

Etta continues to learn to control her magic and starts to gain support throughout the kingdom, which is exciting. She is also faced with impossible choices and must learn to start making the hard choices to care for the people of her kingdom.

The pace was perfect and didn’t have any dry spells for me, keeping me interested until the book was done all too soon. This book is book two in a series still being written, and I cannot wait for the next book!

I really enjoyed this book, and I am glad I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy, because I'm not sure I would have read it otherwise. The characters were real and weren't perfect, they made mistakes and learned from them. I was invested in the characters, and not just the main two characters, but all of them. I also thought Patricia Eddy did a wonderful job with showing the after effects of soldiers coming home. Often you see books with a strong male soldier who is perfect and has no lasting issues, but these characters were dealing with their past in the military.
I'm not familiar with the military or coding world, but this book was still very enjoyable!

A wonderful continuation of this series that I have grown to love so much! I love the world of Illaria and the magic system that Dyan Chick as created. The characters are believable and not infallible, and I have grown attached to them as the series has gone along. The action is still consistent and the story moves along without being boring. The stakes have risen as Etta races to stop the Necromancer King and her brother, who are stronger than ever now that the portal to the darkness has been opened. Etta must also battle the darkness inside herself as well as she struggles to overcome its grip on her to stay true to herself. There is heartache and triumph and can't wait for the next book!
