Parents are people too, man. This was a touching story.

I certainly read this book at a time when I could not dedicate myself to fully appreciating it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I went into the book blinded and still this wasn’t what I expected. It’s very interesting look at Black Christian Nationalists. I’m still trying decide how I felt about this book. It was interesting, but I’m not exactly sure what I’m taking from it. Perhaps it would’ve landed differently if I had read it at another time.

Oh wow. I really enjoyed this book. The first half of this book had the vibe of an early aughts teen movie with makeover montage and all. Then the second half just slammed you back down to earth. The ending had me holding my breath. Great book.

Firstly, I’d like to say that I hated the ending. Secondly, I’d like to say the book was short, which I appreciated, but I’m not exactly sure what it was trying to do. There were some interesting discussions about class and a refreshing self awareness, but overall, I was unimpressed. I didn’t hate it at all but it just wasn’t what I’d hoped for.

I did not particularly enjoy this book but I really liked the premise. I think if I had picked it up when I was in the mood for something slower and meandering, I could have enjoyed it more. But I really just read it to see if it was better than my pick for the Booker  Prize, so it’s also possible my expectations weren’t accurately managed. I was prepared to be blown away and I wasn’t.

This book was fine. I didn’t hate it but nothing about it was very compelling to me. These types of books often feel like space fillers.

Following the main character after a devastating breakup with a couple which upended her life and landed her living back at home with her parents. She didn’t quite crashout but she got into something new, which one is wont to do after a devastating breakup. I enjoyed the mess.

Also, I listened on audio, (via Libby [shoutout to libraries]) and Amy Hall did a love job narrating this book.

I thought this premise was super interesting but unfortunately the story fell flat for me. I was struggling to stay engaged.

I really enjoyed Nancy Wu’s narration of the story. She’s one of my favorite audiobook narrators and I think she hits the mark every time. Also, I appreciate that this was a quick read/listen. I think my experience with this story could have been more positive if I had picked it up at a different time.

Thank you to Harlequin audio for the alc.

Lily King sure can write a story. This was surprisingly so good because in theory, none of the elements of this story would normally draw me in. But somehow, I really enjoyed it.
