I was so nervous starting this behemoth of a series. Mom and even Lauryn (who is on like book 7) have told me I'd really like it and it's not that I didn't believe them, but I just worried it would be a bit too much like LOTR for me. Like I loved the world and the characters were intriguing, but I never really felt a whole lot of connection with them or I never really felt like I knew them. This wasn't like that; I really did feel like I was getting to know the characters and there was definitely a sense that they would grow a lot and I like that. It's probably going to take me several years to get through it (I mean it took 23 years to finish the series itself), but I'm determined to follow through on it. I liked it quite a bit.

This was fun and though it did have the typical romance 3rd-act-break-up, it wasn't drawn out which I appreciated. I liked the disability rep and discussion of class and how it impacted their relationship. Red was a dream and I love him.
I kinda wish we had gotten to see Chloe meet Red's mom though.

I knew from just reading the synopsis that I would like this book, but I found myself falling further in love with it the more I read. The world was so fascinating, I wish I could read a book on its lore alone. I loved the relationships that developed. There's not really any romance to speak of and it's unusual for me to enjoy a book this much (or rate a book 5 stars) that has little to no romance, but as nice as it would have been, it didn't need it. Really, the more I think about it the more I liked it. I definitely want to read it again.
Honestly, thinking back, I think it was important that there wasn't that romantic aspect. It feels important that the main character learns to love and care so reciprocally in a relationship that isn't romantic. I don't think it would have been good for her to develop a romantic relationship over the course of the book. I like that the book left that window of possibility open for her future though.

It kind of snuck up on me how much I enjoyed this book. I think when I started it I wasn't really in the mood for it, but the only other options I had for audiobooks at the moment was the first book in the Wheel of Time series and I wasn't quite ready to commit to that yet. So I kept on with it and I ended up really liking the characters. I felt a little lost on the way the countries and titles worked, but I think it would have stuck better in my brain if I had read a physical copy. Besides that, I found the world building very interesting. I didn't realize it's a trilogy rather than a duology which sucks because I don't love starting series that aren't finished, but oh well. I'll likely read the rest.

I had heard a little about this book because I saw a couple of the author's Tik Toks (I think before she had even really written any of the book) and I think, unconsciously, I built up high expectations for it and was rather let down. Listen, I definitely had a fun time reading it, but I can't claim that it was a very well written book. I also didn't realize it was going to be a series and that was rather disappointing. Still, it was an entertaining read.

I swear T. Kingfisher puts crack cocaine in these books; I just devour them. And it's so frustrating because on one hand I love these little novellas for the short pieces they are, but I also desperately want more. I would read a series of this and Nettle and Bone. Also!! I discovered when I went to buy it that they have another book called A House with Good Bones that just came out! I'm so excited!
Reread update: None of my holds are ready so I'm rereading favorites. This one is still amazing.

This was pretty interesting; I liked her humor. It felt like a podcast.

As much as I really enjoyed all the characters, I still think it was a bit too many to really get to know and keep track of them. She handled it pretty well though. I loved watching the characters grow closer. I can definitely see why this series is so popular and I can see myself raising this to 5 stars on the second read through. Excellent series.
