Life and Death by Andrea Dworkin
5.0
dworkin’s best essay collection, this made me so deeply emotional. her writing has a way of eliciting my emotions so painfully.
“When men use women in prostitution, they are expressing a pure hatred for the female body. It is as pure as anything on this earth ever is or ever has been. It is a contempt so deep,so deep, that a whole human life is reduced to a few sexual orifices, and he can do anything he wants.”

Letters from a War Zone by Andrea Dworkin

(reread) i will think about this book everyday for the rest of my life, Dworkin has such a way of writing about being a woman in this world that makes me so emotional. i carry her words and her testimonies with me.
“Violence Against Women: It Breaks the Heart, Also the Bones” echoes in my brain. “Pornography and Male Supermacy” is even more relevant today than ever with porn being everywhere and being promoted by so called “feminists”. “Letters From A Warzone” is so profound. Finally, Her analysis of literature is beautiful and thoughtful.
i love you andrea dworkin thank you for everything
“I can't tell you how brave and brilliant the resisters are. Or how powerless and hurt. Surely it is clear: the most powerless women, the most exploited women, are the women fighting the pornographers. Our more privileged sisters prefer not to take sides. It's a nasty fight, all right. Feminism is dying here because so many women who say they are feminists are collaborators or cowards. Feminism is magnificent and militant here because the most powerless women are putting their lives on the line to confront the most powerful men for the sake of all women. Be proud of us for fighting. Be proud of us for getting so far. Help us if you can. The pornographers will have to stop us. We will not give in. They know that and now so do you.
Love,
Andrea Dworkin”

i definitely prefer the movie, i was shocked by how different they actually are. i am a sucker for a lesbian novel with religious imagery though.
Living Dolls: The Return of Sexism by Natasha Walter

i think this will become my go to book recommendation for anyone starting off in feminist non-fiction as it covers multiple issues, i don’t fully agree with everything in here but overall a good book. it did have a lot more psychology in it than i thought it would have though but thats my fault for my expectations. lastly, why are so many reviews talking about slut-shaming acknowledging that the sex industry exploits women for male pleasure is the opposite of slut-shaming?
Right-wing Women: The Politics of Domesticated Females by Andrea Dworkin

i don’t think i can even begin to explain how amazing this book was everything dworkin says makes me question things even more. she is definitely one of the greatest writers of all time. i fear her books should be required reading.
“Each has to be understood as intrinsically part of the condition of women-pornography being what women are, prostitution being what women do, the circle of crimes being what women are for. Rape, battery, economic exploitation, and reproductive exploitation require pornography as female metaphysics so as to be virtually self-justifying, virtually invisible abuses; and they also require the wall of prostitution confining women (meaning that whatever women do is within the bounds of prostitution) so that women are always and absolutely accessible.”

Intercourse by Andrea Dworkin
5.0
After reading the majority of her non-fic and rereading this i can safely say this is her best book. I can’t even describe how utterly genius andrea dworkin is like she blows me away every time! The chapter on joan of arc (chapter 6) is to date one of the best things i have read. The last chapter ended the book very well too, i need every woman to read this once in her life!
“But the hatred of women is a source of sexual pleasure for men in its own right. Intercourse appears to be the expression of that contempt in pure form, in the form of a sexed hierarchy; it requires no passion or heart because it is power without invention articulating the arrogance of those who do the fucking. Intercourse is the pure, sterile, formal expression of men's contempt for women”

a necessary book for anyone in feminist spaces, the chapter on the history of birth control was eye opening.
