How to Suppress Women's Writing by Joanna Russ
4.0
anyone who reads classics should read this! misogyny in books is a topic not many people talk about especially when it comes to the suppression of women’s writing and this book broke it down perfectly. written over 30 years ago and still very relevant especially as men in the book community refuse to acknowledge misogyny in their reading.
The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan
3.0
i feel this would be life changing for certain women and definitely has important parts to it that still are relevant especially now that ‘trad wife’ culture is being romanticised, however i feel like this book was focused on only one sort of women and was slightly homophobic. overall i feel like you have to take this book with a pinch of salt as some parts have a good warning/message and other parts do not!
Like a House on Fire by Lauren McBrayer

this actually gave me so much stress omg. the last sentence 🫠
No Modernism Without Lesbians by Diana Souhami
3.5
Natalie Barney’s biography was by far the most interesting one in the whole book i fear her life story would kill a straight person. not my favourite book ever i don’t really like biographies much prefer auto-biographies.
Entitled: How Male Privilege Hurts Women by Kate Manne
4.0
very well written, as most books on misogyny utterly heartbreaking. a necessary read very accessible as well again a good beginner book in feminism. will be reading her other book!
Everyday Sexism by Laura Bates
3.0
the experiences written by other women were heart wrenching to read about especially the ones by young girls. very intersectional as well. although, i feel this would be a very good beginner for someone getting into feminist literature it just wasn’t my favourite non-fic i have read. laura bates is an amazing writer but i do prefer her other book (men who hate women) alot more. it just got quite liberal feminist at some parts.
Circe by Madeline Miller
3.0
i really don’t know how i feel about this book i love circe as a character but the writing just got boring at parts, i forced myself through it alot. i feel like if some of the plot was less male-centric i would have enjoy alot more.
A Scatter of Light by Malinda Lo
4.5
malinda lo knows how to write a heartbreaking but beautiful romance book christ. i love the little references to last night at the telegraph club, the love story in this made my emotions go everywhere. the relationship between aria and her grandmother was so sweet aswell.
Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality by Gail Dines
4.5
made me feel sick reading, an essential read for everyone especially feminists. Gail dines is one of my favourite writers and speakers, i think her work and speeches are amazing. this book is the first book i read criticising the porn industry although i do wish she wrote about how lesbians are particularly fetishised in porn and how this affects lesbians in life as i feel like thats a massive issue from it aswell.
Near to the Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector

jesus that was such an experience what an all consuming book!
“I am will always be where there is a woman with my beginning, I will build inside me what I am one day, with one gesture of mine my waves will rise up powerful, pure water drowning doubt, awareness, I will be strong like the soul of an animal and when I speak my words will be unthought and slow, not lightly felt, not full of yearning for humanity, not the past corrupting the future! what I say will resound fatal and whole! there will be no space in me for me to know that time, man, dimensions exist”
