I loved this!! It’s an impressive debut that looks at the exploitation of minorities in America and how far we’re willing to go to help the people we love. It was disorientating, haunting and thought-provoking but does leave some questions unanswered so if that bothers you this might not be the best book for you.

“It’s overwhelming to know truly how much you love someone, how much of yourself you would destroy because of that.”

This book really packed a punch for such a short read. It was a tender, heartbreaking love letter that also explores the weight of political decisions on vulnerable people in society. Excited to read more from this author.

“For the ruling class, in general, politics is a question of aesthetics: a way of seeing themselves, of seeing the world, of constructing a personality. For us it was life or death”.

Absooolutely loved this short story collection!! This was haunting and melancholy but so beautiful. These stories are so fantastical yet so real, delving in to the way society treats those who are disabled/different. The Selkie was my favourite read but there wasn’t a single story here I disliked!
