I know there are a lot of negative reviews on here for this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was instantly sucked in, and the twists truly shocked me. Not ashamed to say I cried at the end, and the use of present tense made it feel all the more real

I really didn't click with this book. There were huge pacing issues- the fact that each chapter was a different of three perspectives, and that many chapters were very short, left the whole thing feeling rather rushed. I felt completely disinterested in almost all of the characters, and just generally feel that as a whole it was poorly executed, which is a shame, as it had good potential.

I really liked the relationship between Bronwyn and Nate, but lacked interest in the other characters. The overall plot made for an entertaining read, but was slightly predictable in my opinion

I thought that knowing how this book ends would make it easier for me, but it was still heart wrenching. Their relationship was beautifully done, and I somehow found myself hoping they'd find a way to live, despite knowing they wouldn't.

Jane Goodall writes in a way that immediately draws you in. I felt like I knew the chimps myself, and absolutely cried when my favourites died. The best non-fiction I have ever read, and this will be one I read again and again.

The start of this book grabbed my attention instantly, which was great...except that I then struggled to keep going through the middle. This book had absolutely no right to be so long, and a lot of the middle section felt unnecessary. That being said, for the last third (or so) I did not want to put the book down. Everything happened all at once- death, destruction, emotion- and it did, in my opinion, more than make up for the slow middle.

I also felt little attachment to any of the characters, as there were just so many of them. I did however really like Evie, especially how ambiguous she remained, even at the end.

I would say that overall I did enjoy this book, and would probably have given it 4 stars if not for it being so unnecessarily long.

I loved the plot of this book. I'd never read anything else like it, and I kept me hooked right until the end. I actually ended up reading most of this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. I'm a sucker for a plot twist, and I have to say I LOVED the twist with Athena, even though I probably should have seen it coming.

What I didn't love so much were the characters. Almost all of them felt quite two-dimensional and didn't really have any good development. The whole thing with Iro where she had Castor shot, sad then is almost immediately forgiven? It just feel very forced. And speaking of forced, Miles and Van's relationship?! I won't deny that it was cute and I did like them together, but it just came out of nowhere!

So to summarise:
-very original
-loved the plot
-great plot twist
-two dimensional characters
-forced relationships
