A queer, tattoo covered, nun whose into death metal goes all PI and hunts down an arsonist in this great take on the hard boiled noir genre.

Very different from the movie and nearly as perfect. If you like the movie version I think you would enjoy the source material.

An almost Kafkaesque expose of the Asian American experience (and you’ll figure out why I use strike through there when you read this.
It’s a beautiful exploration of what it means to feel like “the other” - while remaining specific to the authors lived experiences but also being broad and open enough to speak to everyone.
Genuinely a beautiful, wonderful book that only made me cry a tiny bit.

Brom absolutely nailed it. I loved the characters in this book, even the gross horrible folks who I loved to hate.
It is brutally honest about how women were treated in the era, and that gets very dark, but there’s an undercurrent of hope in this book that stops it from ever getting too bleak.
Genuinely wonderful from beginning to end.

For fans of grimdark fantasy like Game of Thrones.
Dark but never so dark that it felt overbearing. There were some fun twists and turns in the plot that kept it from being samey.
