And when I commit suicide? What then, Fosse?

This rating is more for the entire of the work than it is for this volume. I don’t know what to say. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s like Fosse found a way to say something more than the words on the page can convey. Just an utterly astounding work and meditation on life, death, and the in between.

OH MY GOD IT ENDED LIKE THAT???

Felt nice to relax into someone else’s brain. I enjoy a “take what resonates, leave what doesn’t” book.

They really blamed the downfall of a family on one lady who cheated a little. *tsk tsk tsk*

Enjoyed this.

There was a part near the end where some dude is complaining about homeless and disabled people being seen in public which did not feel good considering the current climate. Yikes! We have not improved at all!

My bad mood continues to lash out at books I read.

I’m so sorry Ms. Hurston, I just could not get along with this one. The phonetics really did me in and I did not have the patience to parse them. Was Their Eyes Were Watching God like this?

A lot of the “plot” of this book occurs through conversations and it was difficult to read what was being said. I’ll probably return at a later date when I am not in such a foul mood.

Also I hate John hes a SLUT and I don’t care that he died! Good riddance and mercy to the women.

Oh well!

I think I read half of this when I was younger. Maybe it’s too bad I didn’t enjoy it more then.

Did you know that sickness and disability can be cured by sunshine and believing you aren’t sick or disabled? Let this book tell you how.

The casual racism and rampant ableism was just too much for me.

I was in a foul mood while reading and maybe that is influencing my enjoyment but I did not enjoy this.
12 Years a Slave (Movie Tie-In) by Solomon Northup

I should stop reading slave narratives I do not like them. I think they serve as historical documents but we are way past the need to “learn” that slavery was awful and evil. If you need a book to teach you that you should probably just die idk.

I only wanted to read it for its historical importance. But I recall have no interest in the pearl clutching that was done in very early Japanese high society/royalty. Genji was a slut and had a lot of children, who were also slutty.

Unfortunately for me “he went into her inner chambers” is literal and not figurative.

If you like reading novels of manners you might like this. But it’s too much of a “linear” tale for me to be interested.

Was funny to see the same complaints older generations make about younger ones. We’ve been saying “the kids don’t read” and “no one wants to learn instruments anymore” forever.
