These men are stupid as HELL, oscillating wildly between love, lust, and hate. Sometimes it was fun, and when it wasn't I tried to cut them some slack, but mostly I was just annoyed by it.

I'll be all the poets, I'll kill them all and take each one's place in turn, and every time love's written in all the strands it will be to you.

Utterly beautiful writing.

I LOVED THIS!! It reminded me of Mistborn: detailed magic system, impossible heist, etc. But I liked it more. The romance subplot is natural and compelling, the characters are fantastic, and the world felt unique, albiet fucked up.

The characters are enjoyable and so is the romance but the plot leaves a lot to be desired and it feels terribly unfinished? The character carrying the plot of the story doesn't meet the two other main characters until like 70% of the way in and they solve the mystery to save the world easily and rather uneventfully in the last 90%. They're supposed to be a poly ship but plot character rocks off after kissing each of them like once to go finish saving the world and then it ends.

I think the double life aspect, and how Darcy clearly likes Oliver detracts from the original heart of Pride and Prejudice too much. This isn't so much a romance as it's a feel good coming out story.

My hypocrisy occassionally dismayed me, but not so much that I was bothered to change.

I still think the weaker points of this series are the low emotional stakes relationships tend to have, but this book did far better in allowing for actual disagreements and longer lasting tension.

The mystery remains interesting and I'm particularly fond of the universe's magical rules, but I'm not sure it's enough for me to continue reading the series.
