Wolfsong by TJ Klune
This was a very quiet book. I liked the mc and his journey through the years a lot. I'm not terribly interested in reading the rest of the series but it was a lovely read in and of itself.

My mother took me to church once. After my daddy had left. She thought maybe we could both use some Jesus. Joe said my name like the preacher spoke about God. Reverent, filled with awe. Terror and adoration. I didn’t know what to do with that.

The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards
I want to like this a lot more than I do! It had really great potential but fell short often.
I liked the characters, Rune and Quinn especially. But I spent more than half the book convinced Rune and Co were all no older than 25 because of how young and quippy they all acted. That Rune is 35 is absolutely baffeling to me and thats such a shame because I would've loved a more mature cast.
All the relationships felt a little flat, with too low emotional stakes because no conversation ever actually ended in a disagreement or even got heated to begin with. Addam was charming but there was no thrill in his persuit of Rune.
I'm curious to learn more about Rune but don't have high hopes for the second book.

When Brand turned back to face me, he looked resigned. I went over, reached up, put my palms on either side of his face. It wasn’t exactly a touch or a sign of affection—it was just shy a headlock.

Maybe at some point, I'll come back to it. I liked it while I was reading it but once I put it down it was hard to pick up again.

Whether it was the Rifter, or John, or Jath’ibaye, it no longer mattered. They were all one. At the center of both of Kahlil’s lives was his dedication to that single man who was his deity, ward, friend, and lover.

“I won’t be killed. My god will protect me.”
“No! He won’t—he can’t—” John’s voice broke, and he realized that there were tears in his eyes. “He can’t protect you.”

John wanted to tell Ravishan how much he loved this, how much he loved him. He would do anything for Ravishan. How he would die without him.

Probably every person in this entire three-story complex had something to tell Jath’ibaye. It wasn’t as if he was Kahlil’s private deity anymore.
