Book #117 read in 2024

This story is told in poetry about two siblings torn apart by the foster system. Every poem felt like a punch to the gut. When Storm was telling his story, I was thinking about Lake and vice versa. Because of the poetry narrative, many of the descriptive details are left out, which means the focus is the emotion. It is heartbreaking and raw. Some trigger-earnings might be considered before you decide to read this. I am so glad I got the privilege of reading this.

Book #116 read in 2024

If a book is about a cooking competition show and a romance, I will pick it up. This one takes place after the reality show and is about the winner, Kieran, who needs someone to write his cookbook with him. Enter Ellie, who desperately needs this job. The two are oil and water, and their interactions are annoyingly immature. I liked Ellie and could see myself in her. I did not enjoy Kieran and found him insufferable. He becomes more relatable as we learn more about him, but I feel that happened too late to make a difference.

Book #114 read in 2024

What drew me to this book was the unique premise, a romance between Nora, who inherited the family's casket business, and Garrett, who works for Death in Logistics Services. It takes a little bit of time to confirm what Garrett actually does, but once I did, I found it interesting. What was a little less believable was the relationship between Nora and Garrett, which developed quickly. However, this was a cute, different read, and it even pulled a little at the heartstrings at the end. I will happily read more from this author.

Book #113 read in 2024

When Roman's partner Ashley is found dead, his reporter instincts tell him something is not right about her death. Told in multiple POVs, including Ashley's leading up to her death, the reader slowly uncovers the truth along with the characters. The ending is a surprise enough that I questioned if I missed something along the way. I like the author's writing style and will definitely read more from her.

Book #112 read in 2024

This installment of the series is more focused on psychology, which was a nice departure from the normal grittiness of the crimes. There wasn't as much focus on the personal lives, which I missed, but regardless, this series will always have my heart. Susan Ericksen is suburb as always.

Book #111 read in 2024

I can't say enough to express how much I loved this book and Frederick. I can't get him out of my head. In a case of mistaken identity, Frederick is believed to be Bernard Greer, a patient at a mental care facility. Of course, when Frederick tries to explain that he's not Bernard, they think his dementia is preventing him from remembering clearly. What transpires from this point is a heartwarming tale that will make you fall in love with Frederick Fife. I truly wish I could experience this again for the first time. I can not recommend it enough!

Can't Help Falling in Love by Sophie Sullivan

Book #110 read in 2024

Meet-cute leads to fake dating in this delightful romance by Sophie Sullivan. Lexi, a down-on-her-luck, hardworking woman, accidentally spills a drink in handsome Will's lap right before her high-school friends appear and mistake the situation for something else. Lexi lets them, and Will plays along. I laughed out loud at several parts of this book, including Lexi's waitressing skills. Sullivan does a great job at making the characters likable and relatable in a way that you can't help rooting for them. I recommend this for anyone looking to escape into a silly, fun read.

Book #109 read in 2024

I read this based on the rave reviews I saw on Bookstagram, but I don't know if this is my type of read. It is a book about a week in a family's lives on their annual Cape Cod vacation. I kept waiting for a big moment or something shocking to occur, and it didn't. It moved a little slow for my taste. The exploration of the relationship between Rocky and her family is the redeeming part of the book and one that will appeal to readers with grown families.

Book #108 read in 2024

I tend to be drawn to books about failing pop groups, and this definitely fits the mold. Vienna, Madison, and the rest of the members of the Bittersweet, are on their way home from an event when tragedy strikes. Their van crashes in the middle of a blizzard, leaving all of them fighting for survival. As the title indicates, only one makes it out alive, but you must first get through all the twisty drama to figure out who it is. Hannah Mary McKinnon is a master at suspense and thrillers. This one is no exception.

Book #106 read in 2024

Ashley Schumacher writes the most whimsical stories, and this is no exception. Nova and Sam were childhood friends, and when they moved away from each other, they lost touch. So when Nova shows up as a new student at Sam’s school and sees him, she’s excited that they’ll have a chance to reconnect. Except Sam doesn’t recognize Nova. It takes a chemistry quiz for them to realize who they are to each other. I absolutely adore the way Schumacher’s stories make me feel. She’s an auto-read author for me.
