Abolish Silicon Valley: How to Liberate Technology from Capitalism by Wendy Liu

Often I've beat myself up wondering why didn't I go the STEM way instead of Arts of Humanities. Maybe I wouldn't be on benefits, un/deremployed, having to hustle and sell myself for cheap through contracts and gig economy, and we'd have two decent wages in the household instead of just my husband's - who, in fact, is part of STEM and often miserable about certain aspects; a lot of them similar to the ones mentioned in this book. STEM in the hands of capitalism is not always a way to make tons of money fast and be recognised: it is also time-consuming, depressing and either/both utterly manipulative or/and lacking social touch. The problem over all is capitalism, and Wendy Liu's story unravels it pretty well. I just wish the final chapter, offering solutions as a sort of manifesto, was a bit longer and more thorough. Audiobook-wise, I wish it was narrated by the author and not an actor who probably hasn't gone through this - or maybe they have? Again, capitalism and its misery permeates across all industries.

Important, vital, Black British voices in Leicester, talking about the need (or lack thereof) of Black History Month. The general consensus is that Black History should be learnt through the year, in the academic syllabus, remembered, respected and lived every day. As Elvy Morton says, Black History is World History, because humanity comes from Blackness and our every move has been made in relation to Blackness. Only four points because: 1. It needs to be longer, or a sequel needs to be on the pipeline. 2. These Legends are not Lost at all: there is still time for us to find them.

Nottingham, family, grief, so many vivid memories and a clash of feelings in endearing places.
