The Betrothed by Kiera Cass
2.0
"There was nothing as intoxicating as being adored by him."
I'm not sure where to begin with this. I was excited because I adored The Selection but this book fell flat and was an overall disappointment. I couldn't tell you anything about the plot nor the characters. If this had been Kiera Cass' first book, I wouldn't want to read anything else.
Hollis and Delia Grace had zero personality and zero character development. I don't even understand their friendship. Delia Grace undermined Hollis throughout the whole book and yet somehow, Hollis continues to be friends with her and is in need of her assistance 24/7? This main character cannot make a decision by herself. Nora can't make up her mind whether she wants to dislike or like Hollis. One moment she was giving her evil looks, then the next she's Hollis' second lady-in-waiting. Jameson might as well have been a fly-on-the-wall making laughable phrases. There was only two remotely interesting characters to begin with and then Kiera Cass completely ruined his character. At first, I thought Silas was going to be this mysterious and great character then he just went down hill since Hollis started getting involved. However, Valentina is definitely one that goes on you, especially when you learn more about her story. I can't wait to read more about her in the next book.
The romance was no existent. There was no chemistry between Hollis and Jameson nor Hollis and Silas. One moment she was in love with Jameson then the next she is running off with Silas. There was no gradual love story between Hollis and Silas like I thought was going to happen. It was sudden and no real connection.
I can't even begin to talk about the plot. There was nothing. I was waiting for something to come along and nothing did. This could've easier been a standalone book if the ending was different.
"Even in the night, you are still my sun, bringing light to my world".

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

“It's all right to love someone who doesn't love you back, as long as they're worth you loving them. As long as they deserve it.”
4 years later and William Herondale still owns my heart. After re-reading this book, I'm still utterly in love with the characters and the plot. Cassandra Clare takes you into a world unlike any other. The world is set in Victorian London with compelling magic, mystery, murderous machines and of course, the Shadowhunters and Downworlders. A definite recommend for historical fiction and fantasy lovers. This trilogy will not disappoint and is 10x better than The Mortal Instruments.
“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”
The Characters. Will Herondale is the best character in this trilogy, possibly even throughout every YA fantasy book. If you thought you loved Jace Herondale then you haven't seen anything yet. I simply can't get enough of him. He is sassy as well, and of course very sarcastic but that doesn't mean he isn't flawed. He is a tortured soul and is withdrawn to those he cares about to hides his feelings. Bit by bit, we start to see his walls break and we don't understand why Will is the way he is until Clockwork Prince. My heart is already suffering with him because it's just an emotional trainwreck from there. I don't like many female protagonists but I did like Tessa. At the beginning she was naive and innocent but as the book progresses, she has changed into a determined woman and is more stronger emotionally. Rereading Clockwork Angel made me fall in with with Jem Carstairs. He's not a daredevil like Will but much more laid back and down-to-earth.
The Relationships. Even after rereading, my heart still belongs to Will and Tessa. They have a undeniable chemistry that you can't even begin to compare to Jem and Tessa. The parabatai bond between Will and Jem still breaks my heart.
“They ate it too," Will reminisced. "Bloodthirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”

July, 2020.
clearly i should make this a tradition to reread every two years in July. i still stand by the fact that Neville Longbottom is an absolute underrated smol bean who deserves more appreciation. the movies really did him dirty.
July, 2018.
absolutely still love this book, even better than the first time. I just fell in love with the underrated Neville Longbottom even more.
Why did I not read this book before now? this is absolutely amazing! definitely recommend!

OMG THESE BOOKS KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. DEFINITELY MY FAVOURITE ONE SO FAR.
Of course there are things that I love like the house elves and so many other scenes. But there was one scene that I disliked. And if you have read this book then you would know... Yes the graveyard scene. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just broke my heart.
There is nothing more that I can say because it's that good.

Neville still has my heart in this book, that’s all.
September, 2017.
Like always, I'm going to say that this is the best in the series so far. But this time, I mean it.
This was so much better than the movies, the department of mysteries scene and the lets-not-talk-about-it scene was so much different in the books and definitely a lot better.
Plus no matter how many times I say that hate Umbridge to my brother, this book made me lothe her. Everything about her infuriated me and I wanted her to die.
Furthermore, how I wished that St. Mungo's existed in the movies. I felt like even know it isn't important, it would have been a good aspect to have and would tung on your heartstrings when you see Neville's parents.
Speaking of Neville. WHY COULDN'T THEY MAKE HIM BADASS IN THE MOVIES LIKE JK ROWLING DID IN THE BOOK. Neville Longbottom... you are officially becoming one of my favourite characters. He is so underrated and misunderstood. He can be just as brave as the golden trio. Who was the one that helped Harry the most during the battle in the department of mysteries? Yes I know that the others was injured but Neville is the weakest link of them all but he proved himself to be worthy and to show he was brave. I mean, come on, throwing himself at death eaters and stunning everybody? He deserves to be in Gryffindor.
I honestly can't say anything more about this book apart from... RIP Padfoot, you are missed, my favourite character.

still believe that this is my least favourite book of the series. i just felt like it was a bit repetitive? all the book was is harry and dumbledore going into memories and harry hating on snape and draco, trying to find evidence of them being on lord voldemort’s side.
still wishing that we could’ve got this in draco’s pov.

Probably my least favourite book in the series. Though I loved certain aspects of this books, this one felt more like a slow burner for me and more like a filler book.
