The Betrothed by Kiera Cass

2.0

"There was nothing as intoxicating as being adored by him."

I'm not sure where to begin with this. I was excited because I adored The Selection but this book fell flat and was an overall disappointment. I couldn't tell you anything about the plot nor the characters. If this had been Kiera Cass' first book, I wouldn't want to read anything else.

Hollis and Delia Grace had zero personality and zero character development. I don't even understand their friendship. Delia Grace undermined Hollis throughout the whole book and yet somehow, Hollis continues to be friends with her and is in need of her assistance 24/7? This main character cannot make a decision by herself. Nora can't make up her mind whether she wants to dislike or like Hollis. One moment she was giving her evil looks, then the next she's Hollis' second lady-in-waiting. Jameson might as well have been a fly-on-the-wall making laughable phrases. There was only two remotely interesting characters to begin with and then Kiera Cass completely ruined his character. At first, I thought Silas was going to be this mysterious and great character then he just went down hill since Hollis started getting involved. However, Valentina is definitely one that goes on you, especially when you learn more about her story. I can't wait to read more about her in the next book.

The romance was no existent. There was no chemistry between Hollis and Jameson nor Hollis and Silas. One moment she was in love with Jameson then the next she is running off with Silas. There was no gradual love story between Hollis and Silas like I thought was going to happen. It was sudden and no real connection.

I can't even begin to talk about the plot. There was nothing. I was waiting for something to come along and nothing did. This could've easier been a standalone book if the ending was different.

"Even in the night, you are still my sun, bringing light to my world".
