Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
oh my god. this has to be the worst book i have ever read. the representation of alex’s culture is terrible - literally feels like the author read a fox news article about mexican culture. the queer rep in this is terrible. the canadian detective show set in the late 1800s early 1900s that i watch has better queer rep than this and gay people were literally JAILED in that time for being gay. i’d argue the detective show even has better poc rep because they actually do fucking research. it wasnt “enemies to lovers” it was literally just some stupid white monarch and some terribly written, misrepresented mexican guy. they don’t read as adults - i genuinely felt like i was reading a story about 16-17 y/os, which made it so gross. the writing style was the same type you see from a 13 year old on wattpad. this book makes my blood boil.
