this was. fine. the writing was okay and it wasn’t exactly terrible. it was basically like if scream was actually bad and had no camp. successful thrillers/horrors/slashers have to have some level of camp to them at some point and this has none. it was pretty boring overall, and would have been way more interesting if the killer was who i thought it was prior to reveal
ollie! because i mean, cmon that would’ve been much better, if a bit predictable  it certainly could have lent to more terror in the story.
also the reveal of why makani moved from her hometown was so dumb lol.

this was a really interesting read. very well-written, with utterly horrible and very human characters. definitely a very interesting look into the life of someone with trauma and sociopathy.

while this was a great and gripping read, i think this is a topic that, if realism is the goal and not simply horror, should be read as non-fiction, especially considering the tragic reality of it.

this was exactly what it says it is, and i loved it for that. i dragged this book out as much as possible because it was so so nice to wind down before bed while reading a chapter or two of this. this was far from a perfect read but god was it lovely and comforting!!

this was breathtaking. my heart aches and i cant stop thinking about this. it’s taken me a couple days after finishing the book to actually write this review because wow. this was so moving and gripping, and such a beautiful love story. i truly felt transported by winn’s writing. i can’t recommend this enough.

X-Men: The Trial of Magneto by Leah Williams, Ryan Stegman

this was lovely but i wish it was a 10 or 12 issue arc and dove deeper into wanda’s redemption and the dynamics between magneto and his children, as well as wanda and krakoa/mutants. it did well for what it could with being unable to retcon the wanda and pietro retcon, and in the end i did find it a very moving portrayal of magneto, especially with all his faults as a father. would also have loved more polaris, i adore lorna. i think ultimately there’s just a lot that happens in a short period that could have been addressed deeper with a longer arc but i enjoyed this a lot!

this was a good sequel, for what it was - great to see laure get the happy ending she deserved after all that trauma and grief. however, i did find the plot, and the structure of it, to be weaker than the first book and i wish there was more of an exploration of the other demons and a look into that world a bit more. just 100 more pages of that pls! more building of that, and the new characters like our main antagonist.

such a great sequel! i loved how we got to dive further into the lore of this world and really get to explore rue’s culture. this was quite a bit darker than the last book, but i think it worked really well with getting to that well-deserved happy ending. my only real gripe is that most of the twists were pretty predictable.

wow! this was such a cool world to step into, and i really loved the way the author wove it so seamlessly into our world. they crafted such a great urban fantasy setting. at so many points i was on the edge of my seat, yelling “no!!” as the twists came - i was so gripped and im so pumped to get into the next book asap!
