I originally read this book in high school and I remember not understanding because things would “happen” then they wouldn’t be happening. As an adult, I can realize the girl was batshit and was having hallucinations. Tbf to her she’s not actually batshit, just supernatural or some shit.

I will say that Florida is the last place you wanna move if you're trying to cope with trauma. As a lifelong Floridian, I can tell you that it's gonna make it worse.

This was basically like the cutest little rom com ever but like in book form. I loved how, despite the fact that these girls are witches, it's hella relatable. Like of COURSE you'd want to hex your ex after he breaks your heart. Especially if you're two teenagers who really don't think you actually have the magical ability to actually HEX someone and it's just a cathartic crying-and-eating-ice-cream type activity with your bestie.

There wasn’t a single point I wanted to put this book down. The author was really really good at making both love interests desirable as Tella’s endgame. And it wasn’t clear which one was going to be the endgame until dangerously close to the end of the book…. Like 15 pages from the end lol.

Lowkey I feel like this book is “Work Song” by Hozier personified but only in lyrics not in beauty.

I went into this book saying "no matter what twist the end of this book holds I won't be reading the third one" but alas.

This was good but not good enough to read its’ two sequels. Smut was incredible, earning it 4/5 instead of 3/5.

the smut was filthy in the best way, i’ll give it that.

Me as Tess who pops Xannies like Tic Tacs anytime she has to speak.

I did appreciate reading a mafia book where the girl doesn't get kidnapped in the third act.

I had to contact Goodreads support because this book wouldn’t show up in my reading challenge and so poor Anwar had to physically locate this book and move it to my reading challenge. Look at the cover. Do you think Anwar thinks I’m psychotic? Certainly.
