I was either loving this or hating this while I was reading, rarely was there just a fine enjoyment of the story haha. At some points I felt so seen by these characters and the story, and in other parts I was literally cringing and skim reading because I was so uncomfortable by what was on the page. I think my enjoyment *slightly* outweighed the parts I didn’t like though.

I liked this and the story had so much potential, but it felt even shorter than any other romance novella I’ve read (and those in this series). It felt like more of a short story to me, and I just didn’t get enough of the characters or plot.

This is one of those reads that as soon as I began listening, I knew I’d want a physical copy too because there’s so much good information contained in it.

An enjoyable thriller. The end reveal felt a little rushed and not fleshed out, but I don’t feel that it was necessarily the easy way out or anything.

Torn because I liked the small town Christmas mystery part of this, but the romance was a bit part too and I just can’t get behind a cop romance

I liked a lot of these, but a note to the editor — why would you put After Words last? Out of all the great stories and authors included in this, THAT’s the one you want make sure people to remember? Didn’t enjoy that one at all, nor was it even all that spooky, so I ended a good reading experience on a low note and now the book just feels meh.

I enjoyed the plot and the relationship developing between the two characters but my god the writing was SO hard for me to get through. I don’t know if it was just a personal preference or a product of the translation or what, but it definitely impacted my reading experience. I’m interested in what happens but don’t know if I’ll try to continue reading (hoping I’m, albeit slowly, getting used to the writing) or just watch the show.

I really enjoyed this. The characters, the mystery, the folklore, the drama, the setting… all of it made for such an interesting and entertaining read. The audiobook was great too, and I just learned from other reviews that the author narrated it! My only gripe was that it dragged a bit between the halfway and 3/4 mark where I felt we were rehashing the same things again and again without moving the story along, but the end reveals were so great (even though some were anticipated) that it doesn’t bother me too much.

A sweet, fun holiday read! Definitely some plot holes, but what Hallmark Christmas romance doesn’t have those? Bonus for being set in the Midwest because I’ve stopped in Santa Claus, Indiana on a road trip because who can pass up a highway exit like that?
