I quite enjoyed my experience with this riveting historical tale. I listened to the audiobook and I’m a strong believer that the narrator breathed much life into otherwise mundane sections of the text. I found myself occasionally becoming bored with the sheer amount of information there was to uncover. Luckily, I stuck through to the satisfying conclusion. The author has crafted this compelling and intriguing mystery that unravels gorgeously. I’m glad that I got through it but I don’t think I would read it again.

Premise of this book is interesting! It was difficult to care about any of the characters or their possible outcomes. This sort of ruined the stakes for me. I understand that this is comprised entirely of monologues, but that allowed point of views to continue for entirely too long. It was interesting to hear all the different accounts of the situation. That being said, some reasonings don’t align even when given the several perspectives. This book is a book! Not amazing, not awful.

I got exactly what I asked for. They’re immediately too horny for each other. Main girl is compared to Lara Croft a ridiculous number of times. Main guy is named after Harrison ford. Could’ve used more cave traversing, silly cultural faux pas, or badass fight scenes.

FINALLY an interesting book!!!!! This grabbed me from the start and dragged me along with it. The pacing is some expertly and constantly keeps you on your toes. I can’t say that the characters are likeable but they’re intriguing and cold in such a way at that you must know more. The story hides the lead on the plot and by the time you learn what’s happening it’s already sunk its teeth in you. Super duper fun I seriously enjoyed it!! You have to read this the way you would watch bones or any daytime television crime show; enjoy yourself and don’t look too closely.

This is a piece that was written solely for the author. It was difficult to care for the references the author made. Portraits painted of characters felt sort of disingenuous and were hard to connect/latch on to. I may have been expecting too much from it. I found it masturbatory in its nostalgia, which is essentially what grieving is, making it dry to navigate as a reader.
