so cute!!! the colors are gorgeous, the outfits are immaculate, and the story warms my soul! it reminded me ne a lot of the (also phenomenal) graphic novel series cucmber quest with it's food themed kingdoms.

her majesty elif batuman back at it again with A BANGER.

I am actually Selin (it is rare that I relate to book characters this much). I often felt like the observations and witticism she made  are similar to how i regard the world but way more efficiently articulated. safe to say that I loved this book and will gobble up anything else written by Ms Batuman

  • I never read mystery but this was actually very good!
  •  definetly was a good book to make into a movie cause the dialogue in the book feels like a movie script.

my second book on "the tumultuous political climate of Iran" (Layla's English IO 2023)

I can't begin to write about how heart-wrenching, honest, raw, introspective  and informative this graphic novel was for me. it just had so many layers, so many witty quips from the narrator, and subtle symbolism that could be easy to miss.  I honestly might reread it, it's that good.

the theme of this book , disordered eating, is so important. I've suffered with body dysnorphia for a good part of my life and the struggles of it were depicted amazingly through Val's character. I think purging as an eating disorder is less talked about in books in comparison to anorexia, so its cool that this book did. the cover art is ethereal, and so is the rest of the art in this graphic novel. I liked the characters and the plot was cute, i just feel like it was a pretty predictable read , with the writing being very sparse and "basic" for lack of a better term. however Val's relationship with her mom made me cry, books touching on immigrant family relationships will never cease to make me bawl ๐Ÿ˜€

I can't help comparing all of Sally Rooney's books to each other, though I'm unsure if I should. So far, my least favorite has been Conversations with Friends, but I can't decide if I liked this book more or less than Normal People. What I can say is that this book was tender and introspective, exploring the deepest crevices of relationship dynamics in the modern age. I found Felix to be a sort of Nick Carroway, observing these dynamics, which is why throughout the book he has grown to be my favorite character. The email portions were cool ways of developing on themes outside of the main plots between Alice and Felix and Eileen and Simon, and they revealed more about the characters than the remainder of the novel, in my opinion. I really only feel like the book got better around Lola's wedding, so before that I was sorta bored. Also I realized I am not a sex scene girly (at least not Sally Rooney sex scenes)
