Homesick for Another World by Ottessa Moshfegh

challenging dark tense

3.0

As a great fan of Ottessa Moshfegh’s novels I liked this but did not love it.  Moshfegh’s most unique talent is writing the weirdest, nastiest character you’ve ever read about and getting you invested in them, and I fear there is not enough time in a short story for that to fully play out.  Her style still shines through and it’s a weird nasty read all the same.

I read this book to cross off a YA square on my city’s summer book bingo and it was cute!  Would’ve been all over it as a little Catholic school teen.

Fun, accessible, and interesting read for me as a mostly clueless wine enjoyer.  I’m going to be sniffing everything for a while.

A violent, stirring, brutal, and curiously funny revenge story with great female characters and an immersive setting in an Indian village.  Not an easy read but worth the challenge.
