Short stories revolving around trans and non binary magical people? Sign me up!

The only reason I gave it one star less is because I couldn’t really connect with some of the characters

I would like to start off this review by thanking Tamsin for allowing me to be an ARC reader. It’s been a pleasure to do this for you.

The Spell Caster is about Layla Rosen. A young woman who is struggling to use her powers. Along with her best friend Constantine Blackthorn, they embark on a journey to try and figure it out.

Throughout this book we follow Layla and Costi’s journey to figuring out her powers. We see them come up against some difficult obstacles. We watch them have to leave the life they knew at their home when it’s attacked unprovoked by a swarm of armed angels.

As the story progresses we meet new people who affect Layla and Costi’s lives in different ways. With Layla not being able to invoke her familiar she is seen as an outcast. Costi has been deemed a ‘troubled’ his whole life.

Calamus Grey befriends Layla and tries to help her as much as he can. It turns out however that Calamus is not all he seems.

I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed Layla and Costi’s relationship and I enjoyed watching them both grow and face challenges together. Costi’s love and dedication to Layla is what everyone would love to have in their life. Layla’s protection of Costi is an unmatched gift that a lot of people need to have.

I enjoyed the twist towards the end. It had me sad and then relieved. Tamsin certainly knows how to write a book!

I highly recommend you read this if you want a good fantasy book with hints of love, dark challenges and a few good twists!

I’ll end this review here by again thanking Tamsin for allowing me to be an arc reader! I cannot wait for everyone to be able to read this book 🧡

I enjoyed Greek mythology before but I didn’t really know much about it outside of the main people. I loved this book! It made me fall in love with it more than I did before! Highly recommend reading this

*BEWARE OF SPOILERS*

I went into this book with high expectations. Unfortunately those expectations weren’t met. I absolutely LOVED boyfriend material. I was really hoping to love this one too but I just didn’t.

There were humorous moments. I loved Lucian. But I felt this book lacked a little bit.

It built up the suspense of a wedding and only for the ending to be that both didn’t want it? It made no sense. Especially after they talked about it.

Oliver’s issues with ‘out there’ queerness kinda bothered me too. It felt from my perspective that he was embarrassed or ashamed. Him getting so angry and upset over Luke wanting a rainbow balloon arched really irked me. Lucian gave Oliver everything he wanted, including wanting to marry him when he didn’t want to. Only then for Oliver to turn around and say (on their wedding day) that he didn’t wanna marry Lucian either.

It was disappointing to say the least.
