This book is definitely camp, but I don’t think it’s trying to be. It seems to try to be a well-written and highly diverse book. But the sudden and constant plot twists, the
kraken suddenly appearing
in the last chapter, and the characters I hated to hate (as opposed to loving to hate) made this an exhausting read. I would have DNFed it if not for my cousin’s begging me to share in their suffering.

The fact that it’s a series… oof. I’m sure this book is for someone but it is not for my family, apparently.

Truly just not for me. I am grateful to be at a point in my life where I have heard and applied most of this advice. I’m glad the book exists for the target audience; I am not the target audience. By the way, Daniel, punctuation works differently in the written word than it does in visual form.

This book sucked the life out of me. I never want to read anything like it again. And yet, I couldn’t put it down and I wrote two compositions about it.

It is rare that a thriller can ruin my cuticles without giving me nightmares, and can hold my attention without pseudo-intellectual technobabble. Well done.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
I just couldn’t get invested in the characters. They seemed like caricatures of real people. Also, Daniel
joking about his behavior being creepy doesn’t fix that his behavior is creepy.
Self-awareness doesn’t make you immune to shittiness.

I think I’ve grown out of the meet cute circumstance fake date romance stuff. I honestly just found it boring. I was just sitting there two chapters in thinking “why am I reading this?”
