This was adorable!!! I love how it leaves so much of the dialogue up to the readers imagination. This is a book I'll definitely be adding to my collection in the future! :-D

This was one of my favorite books to read as a child. I loved clowns and I loved to paint, so it was a wonderful combination! In addition, the lovely poem at the beginning of this (and all the Magic Castle Readers I have) is one that I have quoted over the years and never forgotten. I'm so glad my mom finally gave me this set. I just read it aloud to my cats and husband - I heard no complaints. :-p

Well, if I hadn't before, I've read them all now... From start to finish, the series was published over 44 years. The first one in 1955 and this one in 1999. Honestly, I would be perfectly content with another Ramona book, or ever just knowing what Yard Ape had written in the note he tried to give her. :-D

The very worst thing about this book is the constant swapping of first person points of view. It’s distracting and, to someone like me who hardly pays attention to the beginning and end of a chapter, it’s downright confusing! The point of view swaps from Ky to Cassia every chapter. I can understand why it was done, but that doesn’t make it easily readable. Personally, I would prefer this book in the third person. Then you can switch back and forth between the two characters all you want. Also, I feel Xander wasn’t in this book nearly enough, but based on the ending, I’m guessing he’ll pretty much star in the last book.

The very best thing about this book is that it does somewhat keep the story going… And the cover is amazing! I love the cover. This book is not a difficult read, and that’s part of what keeps me from marking it any lower than I did, but it didn’t live up to my already low expectations. :-(

The very worst thing about this book is that it is everything. First, it was misshelved in the store – not the books fault, I know, but I would never have bought it if I had known it was a horror book. Second, it’s a horror book and it’s far too graphic for me to sleep soundly after having read it. Third, was it really necessary to describe a deformed giant’s penis in such horrific detail?

The very best thing about this book is the writing, honestly. In almost any other genre of book, I would have been ecstatic to find such detail! Also, this book is no longer in my house (let alone the country) as I shipped it off to the United Kingdom thanks to BookMooch – the best book trading site in the world!!

My niece requested this book and, even as much as I hate tongue twisters, I couldn't turn down a request to read to her. I bumbled through beetle battles and socks on Mr. Knox and cheered when Mr. Knox finally shoved the fox in a bottle on a poodle in the middle of a paddle battle in a puddle. :-p
