... because you'll never believe who came running into the door at that moment.

Nobody! Why would you want to run into a door? That would hurt. But you'll never believe who came running into the doorway.

I truly laughed. This book was ridiculous, funny, and nonsensically perfect for younger grade-school children. There are plenty of moments where the author slips in a joke like the above that can help teach children precision of language (The Giver, anyone?) and what "a saying" is.

Overall, I quite liked it and would recommend the series as classroom books to a few teachers I know.

"I was a boy once, you know," said the mayor.

"Just once?" I said. "I'm a boy all the time."

Really, this series is silly.

Oh the eleven times table... Able to suck you into a parallel universe and explode your head if you reach 11 times 11. Children's rumors are fun!

Fun to sing/read aloud, even if my niece insists that I did it wrong. Apparently my mom changes the words a bit because it's not how she knows the song. :-)

This was a fairly cute little book, but I had to make some adjustments near the end because I'm not going to be an accomplice in brainwashing my niece with religion. Therefore, the last page with "God, thanks for my hands" became:
One hand, two hands, five fingers, ten...
Thanks to evolution, I can use my hands again.

It doesn't make the best sense with the "use my hands again" part, but the book is all about using your hands, so it wasn't too terrible. :-p I wish I had realized it was a religious-leaning book before I agreed to read it, but it was fairly easy to edit out the issues because the rhymes are quite simplistic and there's only two spots. right at the end.

"Wait a minute," said Michael. "Why do we need a boat? Why didn't you just build a time machine out of a phone booth or a car?"

TARDIS and Delorean (Back to the Future) reference in one question? That's a win in my book!

Five stars for encouraging the kids reading this book to look up this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npjOSLCR2hE

Also, in spite of the fact that he continuously uses the same phrases over and over from book to book, they don't get boring. These are definitely recommended to younger children that are ready for silly chapter books.
