I genuinely can't decide between 2 and 3 stars so I'll probably give this a 2.5 rounded up. (Kenji, all these stars are for you)

There's no point in having a love triangle if you're going to turn one of the love interests into a manipulative little slugtoe just to make the other love interest seem like the better choice? Tahereh could've left adams-apple-with-a-rotten-core alone instead of him having to shove his wormy nose into Juliette's business.

I'm not a huge Warner fan even at the end of book 3. The amount of times he paints himself as someone obviously likable, (uwu how could you think so low of me UM MAYBE BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU'VE BEEN ACTING) like sir I don't know how highly you think of Juliette's potential but you should know she clearly doesn't have mind reading powers? How'd you expect her to know that you're the little misunderstood toenail with daddy issues?

Also love how Warner's reasoning for confining Juliette is assuming that all of his soldiers are as much of an absolute toenail as he is. Idk if you realised that Warzone, she does have the potential to defend herself like what in the discombobulated trapezoid?

Juliette's character development was a welcome surprise but petition to rename this book Ignore Me (as my autocorrect keeps suggesting) because the amount of times these characters ignore the plot is astounding.

I couldn't have gotten through any of these if I wasn't listening to audiobooks at 3x and that alone says a lot about the pacing.

Blimey I didn't expect the book to be about eyes just because of that blossoming blue bluer than the sky blue will make lapiz lazuli cri blue orb on the cover but here we are—

If I had a quid for each time Juliette practically drowns herself in Adam's blander than British food eyes I'd probably have enough money to take a beach holiday to Wales and stare into the Adam's-eye coloured sea

But since this is supposed to be a review of the book and not of Adam's eyes I shall move on to more important things:

I'm glad I listened to the audiobook because the lovely Kate Simses almost makes the descriptions of Adam's bluer than the brightest periwinkle blue eyes and Aaron's golden glittery sunshine eggyolky eyelashes bearable

Also Kenji is bbgworl I shall die on this hill

Plus I really do like the premise so onto the next one I go—

Listened to the audiobook and the narration just elevated the experience of the book T-T

so wholesome so wholesome I'm all for the sapphic South Asian rep and the beautiful beautiful beautiful elder sis — lil sis relationship like omg my heart <33

my only very very small complaint is that we don't see any consequences/discussions about the person who outed Nishat but glazing over that tini detail, this was a 4.5 star read and we need more queer desi rep please and thank you

I really wanted to love this book, and for quite a while I was as sure I would, but nothing upset me the way the unnecessary ending did— I feel like in a ploy to be witty the author has ended up being too ironic and too repetitive which kills all the intrigue the premise was supposed to have :/

The ending was as disappointing as the start was promising, and honestly ended up being the last straw for me T-T

Bottom line, this isn't a good guide on how to kill your family and I'd suggest my fellow crime lovers to steer clear of it if you are looking for an actual guide /hj

The way I was so enthralled by the concept of an exiled god and a mortal warrior 😭 it could've been executed so so so much better and it breaks my heart that I didn't love this as much as I thought I would :/

As much as I enjoy descriptive prose, you lose me every time you refer to an eye colour as a 13-something-lettered gemstone and over-describe physical attributes of every character the moment they're introduced T-T

The world building and the mythologies again had so SO much potential and I would've loved it if there was more showing of the world building instead of talking about it through telling :/ I was also excited when I saw a reference to South-Asian/Hindu mythology however it wasn't reflected upon any further, nor do we see any other South-Asian representation which didn't seem like cultural appreciation to me.

The romance fell flat for me as well— I felt like it could've been a lot more developed instead of purely being based upon lust, but that seems to be a disappointing theme across romantasy books ://
