Sins of the Highlander by Connie Mason, Mia Marlowe
4.0
Selected for a bit of brain candy on a train trip, the book did not disappoint at all. I enjoyed the characters a great deal, and the story had a very satisfying ending.
A Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber

For someone who had not read in this series before, I felt that I was not nearly familiar enough with some of the supporting cast, even with the helpful guide at the beginning. I don't know if I would reread this in future holiday seasons, but there were some good chuckles, and I am interested to find out what happens to these characters.
A Seaside Christmas by Sherryl Woods

I loved this Christmas story. The premise felt natural, I felt an interest and connection with the characters, and the conclusion was satisfying. I would definitely read more in this series, holiday themed or no.
The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson

I read the synopsis on the inside flap and wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it, but I let the fact that it had a decent goodreads rating coupled with the fact that the author is well-known put it into my library bag.
The characters - oh, I loved the characters. I could have happily read a novel length book focused on any one of them. But the central premise felt SO contrived from the start, and every time the narrative returned to it I couldn't put that feeling aside.

Letter 44, Volume 1: Escape Velocity by Charles Soule
5.0
[Selected for the Owings Mills Library staff recommendations display, November 2014]
I adore Charles Soule's storytelling. And the premise of this particular title makes my science-fiction, near-future adoring heart happy. The story is compelling, and I can't wait for the next TPB to come out.

Christmas with Tucker by Greg Kincaid
5.0
I read this book with my heart in my throat, as boy and dog, both in need of a friend, meet with adventures and misadventures. But I should have realized that the author wouldn't have put a sad ending in a CHRISTMAS book, of all things.
(Spoiler alert: everything works out in the end.)
