It’s very well written but I didn’t love that all the stories were sad, traumatic or troubling. She is good at giving you a sense of Nigerian culture from all types of economical backgrounds, educations and locations. Nobody felt like a caricature. But there were no joyful or happy stories here.

A very sugary sweet predictable book. It was easy to read and I did like that it had chapters from the perspective of the octopus. It made it a bit more interesting. Not too complex but still well written with realistic characters

I really love Ann Patchett’s writing style. Definitely character driven and realistic. You’re a bit sad when the book is over and you don’t get to be with the characters anymore

Stupid plot, such poor writing, very cliched and filled with tropes. I did not understand why it’s so popular.

the book didn’t really give me anything. it was a book about a depressed mediocre man and did not really seem to have a point. but the writing was strong

the writing was tight but i wish the author hadn’t made the decision to make the sisters so opposite. it would have shown more depth or nuance if they were more similar but overall it was an enjoyable quick read
