Every chapter I was fighting tears. This book shows there can be comfort and peace in hospice care and death in general. I wish Vlahos dug more into her stories and background but understand the book was short for confidentiality. This book is for anyone, not just clinicians.

I think there are some parts I missed: why does this woman take care of Mauro? Where did her ex husband go? I think the slime food is the catalyst for the demise of the town and the town’s only food source which must be the comedy of the novel. I didn’t love or hate the story.

A 13 year old could’ve written a better novel. You can see the ending from a mile away. Bring another book with you if this is your beach read or just skip this book altogether.
