In Jewell fashion, the murder reveal at the end is anticlimactic. I didn’t hate the characters but think it could’ve been shorter.

You’re not sure what you’re getting into when you start the book. Once you get to the first twist, you understand where it’s going. It’s well done as magical realism and fantasy. I’m less inclined to give it to historical fiction besides the location being a real place. The author’s note about Black people in the area is odd in my opinion because I only recall one Black character.

This is one of the longest books I’ve ever read. There are 800 plots, which is 799 too many. The KKK involved in a kidnapping was genuinely one of the most insane plot twists in the book.

This book was way too long and convoluted. Everyone is watching everyone and the murder occurs at the end of the book.

I’m unsure what this book was about. There was a possible pregnant dog outside.
