I couldn’t finish this book fast enough. The reveal of the murderer takes a twist that felt like it wasn’t intended when the author started the book; maybe someone else was supposed to be the murderer.

If you’re an exvangelical you’ll get the book. If you’re currently still practicing the American evangelical life, you’ll hate the mirror this book holds. As a nondenominational (nearly Pentecostal) church, the women in this book realize after years of abusive doctrine they’re not safe in the church or town. You’re not surprised at the end to find out the killer and there isn’t a bow to wrap up the story but that’s real life which I appreciated.

This took 2 hours to read and I mistakenly assumed it was about the boy they found in the field (Karel) despite the description stating it’s about the 3 siblings. In my misunderstanding I was expecting a thriller but it’s a cute story of siblings working together to figure out themselves and their family.

The book is well written and grew on me. I don’t think I’m the target audience for the setting but can appreciate the camaraderie of women working to bring books to their neighbors.
