I haven’t read McAllister’s other books and was nervous seeing a previous novel was on Reese’s book club list (which is a notoriously terrible list). It’s a slow burn mystery and the twist is good! Many layers of missing women and the constant battle of “how far would you go for family?”

The story starts on page 200 and the twist occurs on page 300. There’s no reason this murder mystery needed to be a near 400 pages.

This story takes a meta and lightly sci fi approach on time and aging. The writing is fine but the plot was lacking. Low 2 because I could read it but can’t recommend it.

Beloved Molly Gray [or Amelia Bedelia the fictional housekeeper with autism] is back for another hotel murder mystery. This book felt much clearer than the first one; I believe Prose has found her rhythm! In the first book I wanted a prequel to include Flora’s (Molly’s grandmother) past to better understand their relationship and Prose brought their backstory! This book felt less rushed than the first one. No spoiler but I hope Molly has a career change in book 3, if we get another book!

Sera is nothing more than a suburban white woman obsessed with true crime podcasts trying to make her own miserable life more interesting. She doesn’t care about finding the missing women out of the goodness of her heart but seems convinced she is the host of her own true crime podcast.
