I had been eyeing to buy this book forever, and finally relented. I picked it up for reading pretty soon after receiving it in the book parcel, and it was hard to stop reading. But then again, Colfer always knows how to put a spell on me.
I enjoyed all of the stories, I read them aloud, as if I had an audience of little kids with me (if only!). Most of the stories I have read before, but it was still interesting to read them with the words written by Colfer. The illustrations were pretty splendid too, they were just like the illustrations in fairy tale books I used to read when I was a kid myself. They made me feel nostalgic.
The only reason for it not being 5 star is because of the inclusion of Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes. For some reason, I never really cared for nursery rhymes.
Mother Goose's Fairy Tale Guide was a nice touch though. It was like the combination of The Mother Goose Diaries x Queen Red Riding Hood's Guide to Royalty, the other two books by Colfer.

I love Brandon Dorman's illustrations. It's fun reading the classic fairy tales and the nursery rhymes (especially with Mother Goose in the background).

This book is all right—but the title is pretty misleading.
This basically has nothing to do with The Land of Stories. It's just the fairy tales in their classic incarnation, with none of the specific additions that TLOS makes to them or how it ties them together. I'm fairly certain there are actually a few contradictions in places (the Snow Queen comes to mind; for a person whose scepter was so important to the plot of book 2, it sure isn't featured in here).
Aside from that, the fairy tales themselves are abridged versions, so…I guess they're nice if you want to tell them to kids, and that's about it. So basically don't get it as an ebook like I did because half of the charm is probably in the format and being able to show the illustrations to the aforementioned kids. (Side-note about the illustrations: why is the Ugly Duckling white in them when the text clearly says he isn't? Did you read the thing before drawing? Ugh.)
Overall not *bad* or anything, just…pretty misleading in using TLOS as a selling point. Like, this could be written by anyone, there's not even any of Colfer's writing voice in it.

This was kind of an odd collection--it had fun, light fairy tales, interspersed with dark fables meant to teach a lesson. And then at the end a few nursery rhymes were thrown in. But the audiobook was read by the author, and it was lovely to hear Chris Colfer read out loud. I actually meant to read the first book in his Land of Stories series, and picked this one up by mistake, so now I need to go read the right one!
Listened to this on our trip. Our first truly successful family audiobook. Olive adored this, and the stories are the right length/level for her. I have a feeling I am going to get tired of listening to this.
The kids and I just finished listening to this one in the car. They LOVED it and I enjoyed revisiting these classics too.
This companion book to Colfer’s well-loved series is the book that started it all; it’s the actual Land of Stories book that is referenced in the series as the book that Alex and Conner fall into. This book contains all the beloved stories everyone knows and cherishes, from Cinderella to Snow White and everything in between. There are also lesser known stories such as the Princess and the Pea, and nursery rhymes to enjoy. All of the stories that Colfer chose to include were wonderful and it was good to read the original stories that set all of this up. The illustrations were also really well done and really complimented the stories quite well. This was just one more way for the readers to enjoy a little more of the Land of Stories.
