I loved it! Not as much excitement as in the TV show, but yet so entertaining!

I think the only reason this was rated so high for me is I enjoyed finding the similarities from the show. I watch the show at least once a year. The only reason it is not high is because like the show, I was team Rafael aka Rake. Something about Micheal felt a little too perfect in the show which is why I never cared for hom. Well Martin in the book was perfect....too perfect.
It's like in the show, Rake did everything wrong even though he tried his best to provide for his son and Josephine. Somehow Martin was Josephine dream guy and could do nothing wrong. It was really annoying and if the show stopped like the book, I wouldn't watch the show every year like I do. I like how there is a Rafael ending.

If you like Jane the Virgin, you will like this book. You may not love this book, however. While the narration of the audiobook was wonderful, and I loved the way Simon&Schuster managed to weave the Jane the Virgin plot into a 20th century romance novel set in Miami AND make it believable, I wanted MORE! More details on Jane and Michael's relationship, more details on Jane's relationship with her mother and her abuela, more details on Lucia and Sondra's relationship, more character development in general! The ending was great, and I was seriously gripped and had no idea how things were going to turn out (yes, it's a romance so it has to have a HEA or a HFN, but I had NO IDEA what form that was going to take), but I felt like this novel needed to be a bit longer, a bit more involved. Like the show, I suppose. I wanted more of the emotion and the memories from the show to be translated into this book. Still, it was a great read/listen, and is definitely going in the "Comfort Reads" category for when I need a good book to cheer me up after a bad day.

The Reading Rush 2019

I've been a big fan of Jane The Virgin for a looong time, so obviously I had to pick this up... I just wish that it weren't so bad.

I never expected this book to be my favorite or anything, but this was just terrible. For one, it's just a rehashing of the series, and barely passes as historical. Not to mention how boring and bland the writing is.

But even worse than all that, is what they did to Jane (or Josephine in the book). They made her cheat and betray her fiance, something that never happened in the show, therefor making her lose a lot of the sympathy I had for Jane's situation. I understand that artificial insemination couldn't have happened in the 1900's like it can now, but that's no excuse. Jane would NEVER do that to the person she loves just because of a small little attraction. It's beyond upsetting, and really made it hard to root for "Josephine".

The only reason this didn't get a full 1 star is because that ending was super sweet, and even in this disaster of a book Michael was still lovable.

honestly i think a 2 star is being generous. i started reading this book 2 years ago (after having watched Jane the virgin in 2019) and i seriously struggled through it. i think if i had read it closer to when i watched the show i would have liked it more. this book was not it to be honest.
