This is the second book of Elizabeth Hunter's Glimmer Lake series. It is a series of the larger Paranormal Women's Fiction set of books written about kick-ass women over the age of 40. Thirteen authors are part of the group and it is nice to read about women in the PNR genre who aren't 20-nothings.

The series focuses on three best friends who develop psychic abilities after a near-death experience. Book 2 follows Val, about a year after the accident, and how she struggles to maintain her sanity with her new power. Her ex-husband, who is more like a child that you can't get rid of, gets into some trouble and Val works with sexy Sherrif Sully to crack the case.

Val is a former punk kid who grew up when she had herself had kids. She holds on to some of her former ways by being the cool Mom with tattoos and a shave under. She loves her kids (who are great) and runs her business like a pro. She takes on too much and has trouble asking for help. But Sully can help with that. ;)

The Glimmer Lake series is a little more cozy than some of Elizabeth Hunter's other writing. Though there is some romance and some mystery/action, it is not super intense. It's a nice break though when the world is falling apart (read during covid-19 pandemic).

I had the chance to read an early copy for review!

Such an amazing story!!

Elizabeth Hunter has always created strong female characters but the three women in the Glimmer lake series resonate with me on such a deep level. The life challenges they experience, the self defeating thoughts, the hope and desires they have all connect with me on a deep level. I loved so many elements of Val's story. I loved her strength and her devotion to her boys! And don't let me get started on my love for Sully! He is the kind of man women dream of! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and I can't wait to read Monica's story.

Val is a badass! I want to be like her when I grow up! Kickass tattoos, fierce mama bear, awesome friend, amazeballs boss, and cool AF!

I knew Val’s story would be amazing and Elizabeth Hunter did not disappoint!

Val is fierce, hardworking, an amazing mom, and yet she ends up doing the one things she’s tired of doing; cleaning up after her ex-husband who is more of a child than their two kids, all to make sure her boys are taken care of.

Everything she does is for her boys, her business, and her loved ones! When she lives she does to wholeheartedly and unconditionally!

Suddenly Psychic; Glimmer Lake Book One, was more mystery, suspense, tragedy, life lessons, and growth.
Semi-Psychic Life was packed full of adventure, action, witty banter, and even some romance!

If a kickass heroine, action packed adventure, and paranormal are you thing, this is the book for you!

Another great entry in the Glimmer Lake saga

Three friends. Three powers. Three incredible stories!

I loved this one! The writing is grown up and deep. The amount of skill Elizabeth Hunter has as a storyteller is impressive!

Wow!

Three friends almost die in an accident and end up with psychic abilities. Val touches something and can see things they did and said. Her ex-husband goes missing and is wanted for theft so Val and her friends Robin and Monica do some investigating of their own with help from the local sheriff Sully. Lots of fun, humor, and adventures in this one. Great second book in the series!

Val and her deadbeat cheater of a husband have been divorced for years but when he goes missing and has been accused of theft it is up to Val to find the father of her children and try to help him before he gets railroaded for something he didn’t do. With the help of her other newly gifted friends Val, Robin and Monica will try to figure out what happened to her ex, Josh and why someone might want to frame him.

Val and the local sheriff have been circling each other for a while. She really likes him but her life, kids and ex just seem too much to bring someone else into it. When her ex goes missing and no one is taking it seriously she needs to lean on Sully along with her friends to figure out what is going on and who might want to frame him for something he didn’t do. Can she trust Sully with the secret of her power or will he think she is crazy? Should she give him as chance to be in her life.
“I mean that. You’ve got a good life. A good family. A good business. I don’t want to take anything from that. You’ve worked too hard. But maybe think about how I could add something. How being with me could add something to your life.”
Val blinked. “I’ve never thought about it that way.”
“Fair enough.” He leaned back on the pallet and stretched his arms over his head. “Being with people who always take is exhausting. I’ve been there. But that’s not the kind of person I am.”

This was another good mystery and I like how all the women use their gifts together to figure out what is going on. I also enjoyed that Val got to learn what it was like to lean on the people in her life who will always be there for her and take a bit of the load off. Overall another really good story in this series with likable characters, great setting and the supernatural.

Semi-psychic Life is book two in the Glimmer Lake series by Elizabeth Hunter. This one is primarily focused on Val (Valerie) and her ex-husband, Josh, whose affairs with married women earn him a target on his back. Val developed psychometry (psychic abilities based on touch) after a car wreck (in book one) with three more of her middle-aged friends. She uses her ability to help her husband and find out who is after him. This book is not a life-changing epic story that tugs the heart strings. It is an easy, brain-free beach book with a few relatable quips and an ex husband that will seem familiar to most women. I do recommend reading book one first. I give this one 3 out 5 stars. It’s cute chick lit with a little romance and a side of psychic ability. #chicklit #beachread #semipsychiclife #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookworm #readmorebooks #read #readmore #reader #readingtime

Lessons Learned

I love the characters in this book series! Val might try to come off as strong and independent all the time but when her ex-husband goes missing she ends up learning she needs her family (made of a circle of friends) to find him.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Semi-Psychic. A fabulous follow-up to Suddenly Psychic, this is Val's book (although Robin and Monica are around and involved). Val is a single mom juggling kids and work and a supernatural power. A great story, and relatable in many ways.
