Semi-Psychic Life by Elizabeth Hunter

5.0

This is the second book of Elizabeth Hunter's Glimmer Lake series. It is a series of the larger Paranormal Women's Fiction set of books written about kick-ass women over the age of 40. Thirteen authors are part of the group and it is nice to read about women in the PNR genre who aren't 20-nothings.

The series focuses on three best friends who develop psychic abilities after a near-death experience. Book 2 follows Val, about a year after the accident, and how she struggles to maintain her sanity with her new power. Her ex-husband, who is more like a child that you can't get rid of, gets into some trouble and Val works with sexy Sherrif Sully to crack the case.

Val is a former punk kid who grew up when she had herself had kids. She holds on to some of her former ways by being the cool Mom with tattoos and a shave under. She loves her kids (who are great) and runs her business like a pro. She takes on too much and has trouble asking for help. But Sully can help with that. ;)

The Glimmer Lake series is a little more cozy than some of Elizabeth Hunter's other writing. Though there is some romance and some mystery/action, it is not super intense. It's a nice break though when the world is falling apart (read during covid-19 pandemic).

I had the chance to read an early copy for review!
