I have no idea why I couldn't out this big fat book down. Gillian wasn't as good as Rashel was so interesting that I couldn't think. I just couldn't. Soulmate was good and everyone came together except Ash's mate but I liked that. I thought that was a good idea.

Despite reading No. 2 before No. 1, this was a good read. It's not until near the end when characters from the No. 1 enter the book. However, they are introduced so you don't feel lost.

This book was 1/3 better than the previous one. Dark Angel was a redeeming feature, with slightly better-constructed story and setting, and a slightly darker atmosphere, which helped a lot with the character building. I was sincerely taken aback by the boy's true nature (I though he was another vampire), and the main female character was a bit more interesting.
Then The Chosen sent me back to a boring story populated by carbon-copy, irritating characters. The damned, bloodthirsty, in-search-of-vengeance, stake-armed girl is a trope I hate, mostly because it reduces women to unfeeling, cruel creatures, until the moment they fall in love with a guy of the same species they're hunting. Also, blaming the whole vampire race because ONE vampire killed your mom is RACIST.
Soulmate was another boring, predictable soulmates story, but I enjoyed the reincarnation theme and Hanna's struggles to decipher the messages from her past self. I think this is Smith's main problem: the ideas and themes are nice, the execution is horrible.

1. Dark Angel *4 stars*: I really really liked this one, wanted it to be longer even!
2. The Chosen *3 stars*: meh. It was okay. The first chapter was the best/worst part, truly scary. Again, needed to be longer to get the full story. Are all these smaller stories leading up to a bigger one? If so, when the heck do we get to it??? (Rhetorical questions, please don't spoil!)
3. Soulmate *4 stars*: Really liked this story too. Although I had a strong sense of deja vu...maybe I've read it in a past life lol. (Or by Christopher Pike more likely.)

WARNING: CHARACTERS MAY CAUSE ASPIRATION TO BECOME THEM.
Great book! A simple and elegant read! The plot is more intricate then I originally thought it would be! What's going to happen next? Dun dun dun dunnnn! Read more!!
(Great book, a must read.)
