Always a fan of his writing. The plots are intricate and easy to follow. He introduces an array of characters and they all add something to the story.

Generally I like Horowitz's books. I like his writing style and they are generally what I'd call a "fun" read.

I wasn't so keen on this one. In any murder mystery, the "bad guy (or woman)" is bad. They have defects/faults that caused them to murder. But in many respects, they were OK people. And we may have some empathy with the person murdered. What I didn't like about this one is that the person who was murdered was such a vile, loathsome person, anyone reading this would be delighted that they were killed and sorry that it didn't happen earlier in their life. I don't happen to like the feeling of revulsion at everything this baddie says and does. They were just pure evil.

It won't stop me from reading another Horowitz book, but I'll be quicker next time to put the book down if I get the same feeling.

I love this freaking series!!! It is such a weird testing of real and fictional and I just love it! Even the acknowledgments! I am still not sure what’s real and I guess that’s the point! Loved it!

I’ll keep reading them, if he keeps writing them.

Utterly brilliant, original and compelling.
This is, I believe , the fourth in a series but the first I have read and I did not feel disadvantaged by this, more now determined to seek out the others quickly as I’m sure I’ll love them too.
The novel concept is that the author is actually the main character in the book and under suspicion for murder. He has written a play which is being performed at a theatre and a critic’s, not very pleasant, review has been leaked to those involved in the play and suddenly she is found murdered and the actors and writers are the main suspects. This is all very Agatha Christie and brilliantly evolves as all the suspects seemingly have reason to have committed the crime so it is a race against time for our hero to clear his name, if indeed he is innocent. Quirky, original and very enjoyable.
