Harry Bosch's true colors come out when a murder case appears to be a mob hit. The "trunk music" leads him to Las Vegas. He finds more questions than answers. Who was involved? Ultimately who dunnit and why?

I think it was an okay read. The first part was definitely long, but once the story got going it was actually quite interesting although the story was somewhat predictable. One thing I liked about this book is how the main character, Harry Bosch isn't "invincible" as compared to his role in other novels and its good to see the interactions between him and his partners played out in this book.
A good read overall, but the storyline isn't all that spectacular.

Season 2 of Bosch!
This book is the plot of the show's second season, which is fun, but also can get in the way of really doing much imagining. You can immediately tell why they used this one, because the pacing is fantastic and it has all the elements I've come to expect from a Bosch novel.

It took me a long time to get through this one, but I don’t think it was the book’s fault. I really liked the mystery, the end result, and the little romantic aspects in this one. I was so shocked when Eleanor Wish returned to Bosch’s life, but now I’m so happy. I always liked her from the first book as the best of Bosch’s girlfriends so far. There’s always a dirty cop!

Harry Bosch is a strong and compelling character and that can propel you through even a pretty lackluster story like this one. For starters, the previous booked dealt almost exclusively with Harry having a personal stake in a case and therefore having to work outside of the department, so I think it was a mistake to do that again. (It was done much better in The Last Coyote anyway.) Granted that's not the biggest element to this story, but it is prevalent and felt tired almost as soon as it began. To me this book felt overstuffed. The chunky plot took away from the good character work that usually make this series work so well. It wasn't terrible, just on the low-end of good.
