I appreciate what Richter was trying to do with this by painting a more sympathetic portrait of Native Americans in the '60s when writers were starting to question America's monolithic History, but I bristled a bit at some of the misogyny and stereotypical language. It left me wondering how accurate a depiction of Native American culture is this.

Read because my son is reading it in 7th grade -enjoyed it. A balanced view of the interface between colonists and Native Americans written for a younger audience.

I read it when I was a kid and for some reason really identified with the main character. I loved this book and read it in two days.

Felt a bit perfunctory. And perhaps a bit fetishistic.
I know it was written with an anti-racist purpose, but I'm not sure it achieved it.

Certainly wasn't an amazing book, but I've read much worse for English class(Romeo and Juliet, i c u). I hated the ending, but it did make me cry. (although I was laughing hysterically a few seconds later due to the fact that Get Smart is on my television)

I read this for school, but I don't remember it at all.

Lots of interesting insight and a powerful historical message, albeit a sad and pessimistic one. This is one of those books that all Americans should read.
