This book was highly readable and full of interesting things to think about as a teacher. It read a little "self-helpy" in some places, but it was enjoyable to read and certainly made a compelling argument about not limited yourself based on "learning styles" or age.

Every educator and parent should read this! Get rid of the myth that math=speed. When we struggle and do not limit ourselves, that is when we truly learn. I love Jo Boaler!

I was searching for more books and research around the application of growth mindset. This is still more centred in education but mainly key concepts that are relevant in the workplace. I listened to the audio and then immediately bought the hard copy so I could have this to refer back to.

This is one of those books that challenges everything you thought you knew about how people learn and what people are capable of learning. The author is an expert on this topic and includes so many examples to back up her case that struggle is what really develops are brains and that yes, you really can be good at math, and that collaboration is a really important part of learning. Those are just a few of the lessons that will stick with me as I spread the word about the messages she is trying to get out in this book. Anyone wanting to learn more can read her other books or take online courses from her organization's website. There is even a free class for students to help convince them that yes, they can learn math. I have already recommended this to a friend whose daughter is struggling in her math class. Just by realizing it is possible, we open up our brains to learning. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is teaching or raising kids or telling themselves that they can't learn something.

Great book; great learning. Also, not just for educators!

I’m definitely a nerd when it comes to learning about brain science. Jo Boaler is a rockstar in this area and has such an eloquent way of explaining it all in a way that everyone can understand. I regularly use her math strategies in my classroom and this book gave me so many new strategies to use especially for classroom management. It’s so important for kids to know they are capable of learning anything and that we aren’t born with a fixed mind. #growthmindset

A little repetitive and math focused, but overall a great book. Teaches you how everyone has a growth mindset and how so many of us are taught to believe we have fixed mindsets. Despite the math focus, it is clear how to integrate a growth mindset into other areas of life.
